OT - that gate, did you install it so it swings? Or do you have to take it up and down all the time? I'm so sick of stepping over my baby gate I could scream. I want one that installs like a swinging door.
To preface my answer, this gate only cost $15, lol. Yes, it is on hinges. The hinges were a separate attachment that snap on to one side, so yes, I could leave it on, but because of where it is in the house I take it off (there's really nowhere for it to swing while it's open since it's right in the kitchen/main hallway). It's sort of annoying to lock/unlock in place, but again it was the cheapest one they sold and I understand since it's really a baby gate there has to be a series of buttons and triggers so a kid couldn't open it himself. Even with taking it on/off every time, the nice thing about those wall attachments is that now I have the gate set on a fixed width, so even though it's not as simple for me as swinging it open/shut, I don't have to spend minutes getting it the right width each time I use it. I installed it a few inches up so that the cats can get under. I got it mainly because we are having a dinner party this weekend and also my little sister is taking care of Coke over Christmas and I figured she might want the option. So, right now I don't mind taking it on/off with each use. Kenya tried to fit under it, but Coke is pretty dumb (he falls for the draping-a-blanket-over-two-chairs-makes-a-solid-wall trick). Coke is the one who can't be in the kitchen while I cook so it should work.
