Think this looks like a puppy mill??? Vent

     http://www.fairclothsdoublerunkennels.com/my_schnoodle_puppies.htm

Get the catchy "My dog isn't a mutt, it's a hybrid..." BS.  And, check out the "guarantee".  Better take that pup to vet right from the airport...  Isn't there any end to this crap????  Hopefully, someone in GA will see this and make sure the state vet or SPCA does regular inspections of this place.  That's how we got the Maine mill shut down - constant complaining about the weird, sick, pups coming out of there, plus someone finally went in and checked out the row upon row of cages that were never noticed by the public, who were encouraged to make appointments.  Anyone in GA up for visiting the puppies LOL?

when will it ever end? i'm really getting sick and tired of this "-oodle" and what not crap!

Those dogs look like they're not maintained very well. They're dirty. Especially the poodles.

    • Gold Top Dog
That is nutz! The dont even try to hide the fact that five pups are cramed into one lil cage. Poor dogs..I wish I lived in Georgia but I dont.

I also noticed Scoodles arent the only mixes they breed. :(

Poor Dixie!  Looks like she's been bred EVERY heat since they got her.Sad I helped pull dogs from a major puppy mill seizure last month, this stuff sickens me.

I'm not sure, but I must have missed something.  I didn't see anything dirty.  It looked like a breeder who breeds dogs and sells them.  They even had pics of the dogs in their new homes.  Everything looked pretty well kept to me.  Yeah, it looked like a lot of pups in a crate, but then again, they are still very small.  It's no different than buying a dog at a pet store, yet it might be better, since these are actual people.  Not a company.  They didn't show them at 8 wks. when you actually adopt, so it's hard to tell, but it all looked ok to me.  I know, I know, bring it on.  I'm no expert, that's why I didn't breed Tabitha, so let's hear what's wrong with what I just posted.  No offense!

Dirty or not dirty, I counted NINE different breeds!!!  That alone is like a bazillion giant red flags flapping in my face.  I do not see any pedigrees, titles, health certifications.....There is no explanation of what sets this breeder's lines apart from all others, what they are accomplishing with each litter....The PayPal and payment method banners are higher and more prominently placed on the website than the dogs themselves.....do I need to go on?

You're right, this is no different than buying from a pet store, or any other puppy mill/BYB.

What the heck is a Schnoodle??? Sounds like a type of noodle?

In seriousness thou, they just look like a BYB to me. Some other person trying to make a buck on "designer breeds" and not caring about the health of their dogs..

I have SUCH a rant about doodles and other "designer" dogs touted by hollywood and sold at sky-high prices.  No respectable purebred owner would cross their animals, because we are in the conformation ring and breeding in order to IMPROVE upon  the PURE breed...  Don't get me started, though...people claiming that crosses don't shed? Nonsense!  The most successful crosses were labs and poodles, and done over a period of decades in Australia.  That project was virtually abandoned, since they could not make those dogs into non-shedding dogs.  Poodles also shed, but they are hair breeds, so they do not have the fur dander.  I love it when doodle owners say that their dogs don't shed, and I look at the poor dog's coat and it is hopelessly matted.  Poodles do tend to mat, and unless you are prepared to groom almost on a daily basis, it can become a mess.  Cross that with dogs that shed?  Ugh.  'Nuff said!  My soap box for the day...sorry for the rant.  :)

The girl that works at one of the stores on santa monica blvd that sells hollistic kibble also volunteers at a shelter. She told me that there are sooooooo many "doodle" mixes in there right now that they are toying with the idea of extending free spay/neuter in the county from pits/rotties/chi and mixes of the three to doodle's too.

I dont know what it is..But they could at least put some kind of blanket in the cages for the puppies...Poor little things

    • Gold Top Dog

too far from me or i'd go in for a look around.....

just a curious suggestion but has anyone here posted in the rants section of Craigslist about BYBs and the doodle dog craze?

i wouldnt mind writing up a decent (LOGICAL) rant but i'm not in a fit state of mind to do it right now - i need to go to SLEEP!! - but.... really.. i'm assuming there are two types of buyers of "hybrid" dogs...

1.) ignorant buyers who think they are getting something unique

2.) buyers who dont care and suit themselves because thats what they want and they'll probably always do what they want regardless of the thrown away puppies.

dude... i just noticed that some of the buyers lives in my city... WE ALREADY HAVE SCHNOODLE BREEDERS IN TALLAHASSEE!!!!! FOOLS!

*cough*..anyway..there was one puppy that had an icky looking face but that could have been an accident.. pups are pups after all...

I see your point Janet. What they're doing is the same as a pet shop.. and its hard to judge anything from just a photo. i'd rather see the set up in person.... but there is no doubt that they have WAY too many dogs breeding, too many pups on the ground. i doubt they sell them all... though Christmas is coming up so this is probably their best season. which is something i dont agree with at all: "keeping up with supply and demand"

No doubt...with cameras no less.....but, some places are very difficult to film........Angry

Speaking of doodles and other mutts ...

I was at the mall with my munchkin today and we wandered into California Pets ... at least 1/3 of the poor boxed up pups was some kind of "fancy" mix. Super Angry  This is one of those stores that sells its dogs for mucho dinero with financing available.  RAWR.  Course mix or not, it sucks to be one of the puppy mill pups behind the glass.  And there was a Dogue de Bordeaux pup there. Great dog for a pet store buyer. Snort.

Our Craigslist sees many puggles up for adoption, between the ages of 6 months and a year.  I guess at some point the fact that beagles aren't low energy dogs becomes clear.

Can someone check this breeder out and tell me if they are on the lines of byb or puppymill please? I know my huskies came from there but it looks like things have changed over the last year or so in a bad way.  To be labeled as a Puppymill does it fit under the numbers of litters a person has a year and bad enviroment they live in. I sometimes get Byb and Puppymill mixed up.

puppy mills usually sell over .. what... ten or twenty dogs? they always have pups available, breed too young, sell to pet store chains, its all profit. the dogs are usually poorly cared for, live in filth, under nourished over bred and when they can no longer "produce" they are disposed of and replaced by another dog.

a BYB is just that.. someone breeding in their back yard.. or front lol or basement.. or living room.. where ever it happens! someone who breeds their dog for many different PERSONAL reasons. Good temper, he's pretty, want to see what the puppies would look like, might make a buck or two off selling puppies, calms the girl down if she has a litter.. its usually just one dog or maybe a pair...

its debatable i suppose... some would say if you breed more than one breed then you're a mill.... again i say it depends on the personal reasons of that "breeder".. my cousin is a mix of BYB and puppy mill because she breeds shepherds and chihuahuas. She has two females and one male of each breed... she breeds too soon, under poor conditions, and if the dog CANT breed she's done with it.... i'm usually the cleanup crew because i'm a sap...... she calls me when shes in over her head because she KNOWS i care... before i came along the dog was dumped in the pound, given away to a total stranger or euthed.... if she could afford it. her dogs arent really a part of her family. they're just THERE..
