Daisy update - RAH!!!! Feel GREAT post (Callie)

I can't risk people not reading this in Spiritual Circle -- I gotta post it here.  IT IS TOO AWESOME.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a request for good thots and prayers for Daisy:  http://community.dog.com/forums/t/65480.aspx

Daisy is a little beagle mix that my friend "Ellie" literally found broken by the roadside.  Ellie (this is Dr. w/experience with IG helping Ratsicles) saw her, pulled over and loaded her broken little body in her car and went straight to the e-vet.  (Typical of this lady -- she's an awesome advocate)

This lady has pulled more broken bodies into the e-vet than folks can imagine.  They used to argue with her that the dog wasn't worth saving but have learned NOT to argue. The last comment was "Ok, I can see Providence's hand in what you do -- time and again dogs you bring in survive when they shouldn't -- I won't argue any more, I just roll up my sleeves when I see you coming in!!).

Daisy was unbelievably broken - I don't know if they counted the vast number of broken bones (including pelvis) and they really didn't think she'd make it the night.  Ellie emailed me and posted on our little board, and I posted here for prayers and good thots.  yes, Daisy made it ... and went home way sooner than anyone thot possible.

    NOW FOR THE AWESOME PART:

I called Ellie last night to get some help for Chief, and she gave me this awesome update on Daisy.  Because Daisy was so 'broken' the vets really wanted her to have round-the-clock care for a while.  Ellie is single and a doctor (psych type) and has bunches of animals and does a ton of pet therapy -- and round the clock just isn't possible.  But Ellie's boss fell in love with Daisy right along with everyone else and decided to take her home b/c her husband is retired and really wanted to be a bit busier.

He's an ex-marine and he and Daisy get along GREAT.  But these folks also have kids at home -- among them a 22 year old who is autistic (quite high functioning but VERY quiet and almost never talks to humans -- talks a TINY bit to their dogs but very quiet).

This boy has bonded VERY strongly with Daisy and TALKS A BLUE STREAK to her.  but it has loosened him up enough where it's impacting his relationship with everyone -- talking to other animals and family far far more.

One son is in high school (late) and he has gone to school so pumped because of the awesome effect Daisy is having on his brother he just can't stop talking about the effect on his autistic brother and how awesome it was that she went from so broken and homeless, and almost didn't get treated at the e-vet because the cost was SO high (and people fell in love with her and donated services for her so she DID survive).

Well this kid and his friends have decided to DO something about it.  They've made "the Daisy Fund" a high school project and are literally raising money to start a "scholarship" at the emergency vet so when stray animals are brought in broken but no one can afford to treat them, there will be this money to help pay for treatment.

I'm sitting here in tears again  -- ONE MORE TIME FOLKS a dog makes a huge huge difference in a human life.  And in this case, not just ONE life but many.

Imagine the kids who will be motivated to do more BECAUSE of knowing what "Daisy" did for this boy.

I think this is so awesome.  There is such power in "good thots and prayers" or whatever you choose to call it.  And talking about such things -- with friends and family ... it can do a world of good.

Wow...this is an AMAZING story.  Here I am, sniffling into my hot chocolate, because I cried telling my husband the story.  It's amazing what Daisy did for that boy, and how she impacted so many people (and future animals!).  I'm SO glad that you posted this, and and even more glad that this happened.  I'll be telling the story to work and friends, to spread the word about how dogs can truly make a difference!

    Thanks for sharing! Smile

This is so amazing.  They should contact the local media to bring in more attention and $$ to help more pups!!!

What an incredible turn of events - the "pebble into the pond" was Ellie saving Daisy's life, and now the ripple effect will spread to affect the lives of many dogs AND many children/students (who will learn valuable lessons about community service and compassion and responsibility for other living beings).  Wonderful news!

That's wonderful!! They should set up an account (paypal?) so people can donate online.

I wish this idea would spread -- Ellie lives in a very rural, very economically hard-pressed area.  Dogs 'belong' outside, vet care is foolish & a waste of money - that kind of thing.  So just the idea that these kids truly GOT how important this was is incredible.

I'll post in on Facebook Callie.  Things fly quickly on there.
