My crock pot met a sad end tonight.

My crock pot met a sad end tonight.

I made a delish whole little fryer chicken in my crock pot. Also roasted potatoes and asparagus. BF was in charge of cleanup since I cooked.

*me, in bedroom, at fancy new ikea desk, checking email* 'BF, are you cleaning?'

BF: 'Yes' *continued sound of video game*

Me: No, you're not. GO. Now.'

BF: *grumble grumble* 'Ok. Fine. I will clean up this delicious meal you cooked me.'

*me, loving BF for cleaning up said meal* CRASH *headdesk*

    Me: 'Was that my crockpot?'

    BF: '........noooooooo'

He apparently was trying to dump the chicken bones in the trash and dropped the ceramic part. Anyone need the bottom part of a crockpot? Or know if I can buy just the crock?

oh noo!!! I love my crockpot! makes wonderful food for me!

I would check some local stores... I'm not sure if you can buy parts - you SHOULD be able to... I would think

    • Gold Top Dog

RIP, crock!!! Maybe if you check on ebay?

    • Gold Top Dog

Ooooh, I think BF better be checking ebay, very sad for the crock pot.

Hmmm,  is this his way out of having to clean up after dinner from now on??? Just a thought....

Check the thrift store.  I got a new lid for one of mine there years ago.  it cost a whopping thirty cents!

Awww!  Bummer!  I too love my crockpot.  I don't know what I would do without it!  Anything I can cook in one pot, that's for me!  I don't know if you'll be able to buy just the ceramic part, but now would be a good time to get a new one.  They're all on sale now!  Mine is just the dial in the front, but they have programmable ones that are cheap!  My hubby just bought a crockpot for my daughter (same kind as mine) and it was $20.  I think that's reasonable.  It may have been a little more, but I don't believe over $25.  He got it at Walmart.

I like your BF's answer "....noooooo"  Classic!  LOL

If it was a name brand you may be able to replace from the manufacturer. Poor crock pot!

Well, grandma heard my tale of woe and ran out to Target and got us a replacement. Oh grandma, she loves her Red Card. I'll always love Crocky 1 thought!

I found these liners in the plastic bags aisle at the grocery store that you can use and then just throw away. Reynolds makes them, I think. Has anyone tried them?

Yes!  I love them.  I can't believe I had a roast and a bottle of barbeque sauce in a crock pot and I didn't have to so much as wipe out the inside of the pot. Usually I have to let it soak for awhile then scrub it out. The only problem is that they only come about 4 to a box.

Ooo, I'm glad someone else has tried them. I was a little afraid they would melt and I'd be on Crocky 3.

Feel free to share crock pot recipes! I need ideas :)

    • Gold Top Dog

No - they don't melt.  They hold up great and they stretch to fit a  6.5 qt. crock pot. My sister, who knows I hate to cook with a passion, gave a recipe that's pretty easy and the boys like.  Just put a roast (beef or pork, 2 to 4 lb.) in the pot, dump a bottle of barbeque sauce, or Russian or French dressing, or a bottle of any kind of marinade in there and leave it on low for 6 hrs. Since I don't actually have to touch the raw meat, I can handle that one OK. Smile

Sounds like my kind of meal!!  ;)

Ok... I am SOOO totally NOT a cook that I am not even sure WHAT a crockpot is !  Huh?

Is it a "slow cooker" thingy ?

If yes, then that's what I'll ask for for Xmas since my kids have been on my case about what I want for Xmas, and anything that I can just shove in a pot and have it done for supper, sounds FANTASTIC !!!  lol

Of course, I will need ALL your super easy receipes as well....

Ok... one last question... what the heck would it be called in FRENCH ?!?!?  ( Yup, I'm in Quebec and although my kids are bilingual, they will certainly look at me strangely if I say a "crockpot" !!!! )

call the company, i am sure you can get a replacement ceramic pot. if not, crockpots are very affordable and should not be too expensive to replace.

    • Gold Top Dog

a crock pot is a slow cooker. you can make anything in them and the generally clean up easy. its great to chuck everything in and than go to work and come home to a warm meal. they run about 30 to 40 bucks for a good one. for  a fancy one you can expect to pay $100+
