    Installing a Dishwasher Today....Any Hints?

So, our old DW was on it's last legs.  The new DW was delivered yesterday & we (mostly I) said that we'd install it, NP!  Stick out tongue  Now I get to try & do that today.  Any hints?  I was the one who installed the old DW & it looks like the install is just the reverse.  Any hints on making sure I don't have any leaks?

Plumbers tape?  Not sure...but good luck!  You are much braver than me.  I would just pay and have them install it for me!

Installing a dishwasher is easy.  You won't have any problems.

I would have suggested to let them do it!  LOL, You are one handy dandy gal, I'll tell ya.  Anything that has to do with plumbing in this house is left to the experts!  I always go into a panic attack when anything to do w/ plumbing comes up.  Our house isn't that old, about 50 some yrs., all the homes in our plan are the same age, but for some reason, this house scares the b'jeebers out of me when it comes to plumbing.  Good Luck!  No real good advice, just impressed!

My only advice would be to call the place where you bought it and if they won't send someone back to install it, call a plumber. Big Smile Good luck!

Find out which circuit breaker in the panel feeds the DW. Turn it off. Unless you have one of the newer set-ups. Houses these days are requiring a plug to be installed and the dishwasher to have an appliance cord. Disconnecting power is accomplished by unplugging the cord. Otherwise, you have to turn the circuit breaker off and then manually undo the connections which should be near the front, probably on the right hand side, behind the kick panel (the panel you accidentally kick with your feet.)

Turn the water supply off where it comes out of the wall. You might want to have some bowls or towels handy to collect a minor spillage of water. Be aware that the dishwasher may have some water in it. Disconnect the drain hose and you will also have some water spillage. When fitting on the hoses from the new one, or even re-using the old hoses, it can't hurt to wrap some plumber's tape on the threads. Its similar to RTV sealant in that it helps to provide a water proof barrier in the threads. Enjoy.

~grumble~  It's still sitting waiting patiently in the opening where it needs to be set into.  I'm having problems with the feeder hose.  It's copper & I need a little more strength than I have to straighten it out just a tad so I can finish it.  I'm really bummed.  If I didn't have this teeny problem I'd have it done in 10 minutes.  It's sooper easy.  I WANT MY DISHWASHER IN!!! ~LOL~  You know you're getting old when you're EXCITED to get a dishwasher for Christmas. ~LOL~

Thanks for all the tips everyone.  I know you're all just dying to see the above mentioned DW. ~LOL~  I'll snap a photo once it's in place & running.

Are you kidding, I would give up everything else I get for x-mas for a DW.  I don't have one and I hate it!!

I'm only 20 and I'd be THRILLED TO BITS. Ours is old and noisy and uses a LOT of electricity. I also just enjoy new appliances.

I must be beyond ancient. Smile I get excited when the new JCPenney catalog comes.  How pathetic is that?

Hose or hard copper pipe? You can get flexible hose in various lengths. Anyway, good luck and may the faucet be with you.

Ron, it was a copper pipe.  If it had been a flexi it would have taken half the time to install it.  The good news is that we finally got it installed & it works. No leaks or anything.  Yay us!!!
