Who gets your pets if something happens to you?

Who gets your pets if something happens to you?

Someone on another board posted this question and thought I would ask you all here.  As for me, I just don't know who would take my pets for me.  My mom would surely take Sampson...she's been trying to get him from me since she met him.  Maggie is too much for her though.  My sister is a small dog person and I cant be sure she would take Maggie and I also would not want them seperated.  Ever since I read this post it's had me a little worried.  Over nothing hopefully but you never know. I better get a plan together just in case.  What about you guys?  Do you have a plan for your pets if you couldn't care for them due to illness, injury or death?

In an immediate emergency should anything happen to both myself and my husband our neighbor will take care of Kord until my sister can be contacted. She is not in a postion to take him but she gets first choice, should she decide to keep him, great, if not or if she does and changes her mind he goes back to his breeder.

I've thought about this before.  I went ahead & made arrangements in case something was to happen to me.

Bevo would go to my younger brother.  I know that he can confidently handle Bev, & since he has dealt with dobes before, he knows how vigorous Bev's exercise needs are.  Shooter would also go with this brother.  Shooter is stubborn & hard headed, so he needs someone who will always be on their toes.  Younger brother fits the bill.

Chyna & Schatzi would both go to my parents.  They stay there when I go out of town, & my parents love them both.

Brinxx would go to my best freind.  They both have bubbly personalities, & they get along fabulously.

if something just happens to me, the lad will continue caring for them. If something happens to both of us, my mom will take them (though getting them from AZ to IL ought to be fun!)

I know DH would keep and take care of them all if something happened to me. If something happened to both of us...I honestly don't know.  I wish I had a plan, but I don't know what it would be- most of our friends aren't animal people, and the ones that are have low limits and couldn't take on more. Our families might take a few of them...but we really don't know anyone who could take our 6 dogs, 2 horses, our goats, our chickens, our rats, our rabbits, our cats...I have no idea. We don't know anyone who would be able to take on that many animals if something were to happen to both DH and I. Sad

If something happens to me, DH keeps Coke and the cats, Kenya goes back to someone else.  If something happened to both of us, my parents would decide what to do with Coke, I have friends who have previously cared for my cats, and Kenya would again go back to someone else (pre-determined).

I hate to say it but, although my mom would care for my dog....I doubt I would like the care she would provide.  ie...little to no exercise, poor choice in feeding and would possibly end up overweight.  The good thing is that she is home all the time so he won't be alone a lot. I dunno...maybe Im worrying too much.  Im gonna call her now...this is bugging me.

My mom would be my first choice, if she was unavailable, my sister or my brother would be fine. We are all animal people so I know they would be in good hands.

My Mom would keep both Cherokee and Kovu (my cat), though I kind of hope one of my sisters would offer to take Kovu off her hands. My Mom already has two cats who don't get as much attention as they would like, and Kovy's extremely needy and affectionate...and gooey. He drools. My mom doesn't like him much, but I know she'd keep him, it just wouldn't necessarily be best for him.

Cherokee's options would basically be my Mom or euthanasia, so while my Mom is NOTHING like me when it comes to dog care (Cherokee would be totally isolated from the outside world..eating Science Diet..being yanked...er, "corrected" constantly..)..she's the better option.

Like most everyone else, if I disappeared, DH would keep Honor and the bunnies.  If something happened to both of us, my parents would take the animals.  Even though my dad's not so crazy about the rabbits, my mom's tremendously attached to her "grandbunnies", and I know they would keep them.  They both LOVE Honor, so there's no concern there.

Unfortunately, there's not many people that will take Dakota. She's a very difficult dog to own for even the most savvy of dog people. Fortunately, a friend of mine will keep her if the need arises.

As for Neiko, I'm hoping that my sister would take him in since Neiko and her corgi, Molly, are best buds.

If something were to happen to me the cats would stay with the hubby...Cowboy well that would be up to my husband, but if he wouldn't keep him then he goes to my mom or dad...preferably my mom.  If something happened to both oof us all the cast go to different homes..and Cowboy and my Izzy would go live with my mom.

The only animal of mine that my dad would take would be Rocky.  He loves "Black Dog"  That's what he calls him!  Dad is terrified of my pits.  I don't know what would become of them.  Hopefully Dad would be nice enough to find them good homes.  I don't know about my cats.  As for my rabbit, my dad might take him and put him in a pot of gravy!!  He Better Not!!

If something happened to both DH and I the shelties would go back to the breeder per the contract I signed. There is a chance my kids father would want them since we dog sit for eachother, but he would have to be approved by the breeder. I don't think she would have a problem with him having them though, since they would be with my kids and he has dog experience....I should probably go ahead and run that by her.

My mom might take the cats, but if she doesn't, then my friend who cares for them when I am out of town would take them.

If my entire family is killed by a volcano rising up out of the NH granite Big Smile Gizmo's breeder will take him. This is something we talked about before I got Gizmo.
