    Water Dish Delimnas

Blargh!!!!  Do I HAVE to leave fresh water out for my dogs at all times?  Can't I just give them water every few hours and leave it at that?  It has become Kali's favorite toy.  And the dogs think its great!  Everytime she goes over to splash in it they try to teach her how to really drink like a dog.  She tried once to put her mouth on the side like a cup, but that didn't work so she watched Crusher drinking(cause he does everytime she goes to the bowl) and then she stuck her face in the water.  Now, I'm not really grossed out or anything.  The water if fresh and the bowl gets washed everytime I do dishes, but lordy its making a mess of her.  I've had to put a new shirt on her 3 times today, not to mention she soaked her jammies too.  She doesn't do little splashes... she slaps her hands down in the water from way up over her head.  She's definitely a water baby.  So it only takes  a second.  I've relocated the thing 3 times in the last couple days.  When the dogs go outside, the water comes up, but I think I need to keep it down for them when they are inside.  Do I?  I mean they take sips occasionally, but wouldn't they just learn to drink when it was put down for them if I only set it down periodically?  I don't have anywhere in the house the dogs can get to that Kali can't.  In fact she can get to more places than they can.  What can I do!  Help!  I'm sooooo frustrated!  Its gonna be one of those days...Crying

A shock collar for a kid???  I don't think so..

I think you can put it up when they aren't drinking. I know Maze doesn't drink much and my kitten likes to swim in the water dish so I put it up when she's done.

    I don't think Billy was really serious...lol

I'm putting the water bowl up for now.  I can't carry Kali around all day long if I want to get anything done around here.  And everybody is napping right now anyway, so I get a breather.

I offered the dogs some water a little bit ago and neither one drank any.  So its not gonna hurt them.  The urge to bash my head into the wall is still there though... I need some chocolate.

I am definitely not coming from a point of expertise but I can't see why adult dogs can't have their water removed part of the day.  I just did that when that lab was visiting because they were creating a small pond in my kitchen.  If one went to drink the other had to join in and neither was a very neat drinking and Bugsy is one of the all time sloppiest water drinkers know to dogkind!  They had plenty of water but at times I just took it away.  Honestly Bugsy only has a few GIANT drinks each day. Not sure if I put it away he'd even notice

BTW I think its cute but can totally understand your frustration Smile

I wasn't serious but, OTOH, I have seen some kids who.....  Smile

I never thought you were serious. Smile It was just the first thing I registered and I have a nasty habit of typing before I think.

I also have seen kids who need them. More so nowadays then in the past (my past at least) Stick out tongue

I have to keep water down for my 8 hounds... and yes that means my grandbabies will at some point or another get in it too ...sigh...just a phase don't worry. Right now I only have 2 that still routinally get in the water bowls, buckets and Bistros... but then like the great G'ma I am I often give teething babies dog cookies ... there I said it... I buy the very best quality and to this day even the 8 year old will munch on one from time to time. It cracks me up and grosses out the DH. My dog's water dishes are kept very clean, I use a large variety and after raising 5 daughters and having 10 grandkids I know there is a lot worse in the world than sharing a drink with your four legged sibling. If you take several deep breaths and remmember this too shall pass you may make it through all of the other interesting phases she will treat you to! Best of Luck Bonita of Bwana

I honestly had to lean back and clap my hands to this one.  Dog cookies?  Wow!  I can't do that since I don't buy any form of dog cookies.  I dehydrate chicken and liver for them, but that is the extent of treats.  Well unless you count the food vendor that resides in the highchair during meal times...its no wonder they love her so much.  When the dogs come in, they go strait to the highchair incase something was eaten in there while they were out.  After that they greet people.  IF Kali isn't in said highchair.  If she is they park it there for the count.

I just loved having dogs when a high chair was being used, less clean up for me!Wink

Billy, shame on you - you have people thinking you are cruel - you forgot to tell them to try the collar on themselves before trying it on the kid.  Then they would know it's just a "stim".   Devil

When each of my kids has gone through a water dish phase, I have put the dish on a shelf out of the crawling baby's view, but within reach of the dog, boxer at the time.  Maybe my kids weren't very bright :) but if they could not see the bowl, they did not think to get into it.  We had a tub and then a shelf where the dog had easy access to the water, but the baby did not notice it.  Also, our kitchens have always had a baby/dog gate, mostly so no one is in there unattended.

Candace, there is an easy way to distract Kali from the water bowl......give her a box of kleenex to feed the dogs!Big Smile
