but they'll encourage kids to read R&J?

i see the point and understand why they make them read that.... its like.. the first Dawson's Creek, or 90210...

OMG- I haven't spit soda so far in a long time. It's clear this thread was just nonsensical comedy writing, right?

     LOL!!!!!

Paige, are you willing to work during the strike Stick out tongue

my opinion of the strike(and it is apt to change) at this point is ... i see the point of them wanting a cut of the extra profits... i'm sure, by moral standards, they deserve to make that profit... but they should have paid more attention to their contracts. and i dont think the strike is a bad thing considering the crummy over done/over the top choices on local channels... not cable tv reruns..

as an artist i am a member of a couple of art websites and online stores.. if i want to post and/or sell my art through these people i have to accept their terms and conditions. i have to accept that they can, at any point and without notice, use my art for advertising and they dont have to pay me for it. many artists pick up their paint brushes and leave because they dont agree with that, which is their right... dont like the rules then dont hang out there. But the artists that get pissed off because they SUDDENLY discovered these terms and conditions have no right to complain. personally i really could care less about terms and conditions... if i draw or paint something that i feel protective over then i will only post part of that image, or sign my name in the middle of the copy, keeping the original clean and neat for what ever purposes i have in mind. if i decide to disagree with the contract then i can leave at any moment. theyre doing me a favour just by letting me join for free.. i get a ton of exposure by posting on their websites.. its a win/win situation for me.

and at this point i still think the strike is great as i am curious about how it will effect programming in the near future.
So.... yeah its great. i think, PERSONALLY, that these shows have all been done over and over and over and over. people arent as imaginative as they used to be with the cookie cutter tv shows and movies and the RPG games... sometimes i wonder what would happen if they TOTALLY stopped making movies for a couple of years... you know.. an actor's strike?  would it really be a big deal? would there be that big of a loss in the world? why do these people feel a need to keep churning out film after film?

I also wonder how things like youtube will effect the movie industry. everyone has a little video camera now... the sky is the limit if they can get creative enough.. and thats where i spend a lot of my tv time... on youtube.... have you seen Tony vs Paul? http://youtube.com/watch?v=AJzU3NjDikY

and i compared R&J to Dawson's Creek and 90210 to be funny.... but to be honest its all teen age angst to me. couldnt stand any of the three even when i was a teen. buuuuut i was a weird kid anyway. mainstream has never been my thing and i dont like something because everyone likes it. but i do grasp the concept of WHY its popular. there just happens to be something appealing to the majority. but every now and then i'll look up and wonder why... especially when it comes to so much violence. hence my reason for bringing up constantly how popular it is to see mangled bodies on prime time on the local networks.. sure i understand a puzzle... which is all a crime show is.. a giant word search with pictures and characters.. who did it? am i smart enough to figure it out? are my powers of deduction as good as a detective's? that i agree is FUN.... trying to help solve a great mystery... but why are they getting so graphic and showing rotting bodies and maggots being discovered by kids? is it because the SHOCK FACTOR is drawing people to this stuff?

i dont wanna cram any of my likes down anyones throat. i'm just wondering why we've got THESE options (very limited for someone without cable) I've pretty much figured its not always the writers that come up with it on their own.. some of them are doing as they are told... but at the same time some of them ARE using their own creative minds.. some of that gets accepted by the guy in charge of accepting it... but would we really suffer much from a long lasting strike? and did they start their strike before they finished writing Shrek 3? the climax of that was beyond anti-climactic... "Cant we all just get along?" wth??

i guess i'm the only to think it odd that ... schools wont teach safe sex in sex ed.. but they'll encourage kids to read R&J

Umm....schools try to teach safe sex but the subject matter is routinely voted against in certain districts.   Safe sex groups donate condoms and parents don't want them given out.

If you want your child to learn about sex- talk about it at home.  Don't rely on the schools, and don't be embarrassed to speak about it.

at the rate its going we'll all be able to watch porno after 10 on our local networks.. for FREE too!

I don't understand your point.  We're adults.  If you don't want to watch naked people, then change the channel.  I'd imagine that most people live in an area, even with only an aerial, that they have at least 3 channels to choose from.  Better yet, turn the TV off and read a book.  It's about choice and demand.  I watch 3 or 4 primary channels and that's about it, other than sporting events.  I have a VCR, DVD player and plenty of reading to keep me occupied.  If that doesn't work, I can always go out walking with the dogs.

I don't want the school teaching my kids about sex.  I want them to learn about it, as I did, from their friends.  Smile

This is why I hear things like "you can't get pregnant 10 days before or after your period," "untreated chlamydia leads to HPV," and "HIV can go through condoms" from young women all the time :)
    • Gold Top Dog

You forgot one very important one.  A girl can't get pregnant if she is on top.  LOL.

    • Gold Top Dog

    Well, everyone knows that!

    • Gold Top Dog

Isn't that how you ended up with child number 3 Billy?  LOL

You all forgot that eggs can't be fertilized if you "do it" in a hot tub.

Ed, you bring up some very good points, IMO.

I THINK I heard on the radio this AM that union scale for writers is like $17,000 a week.  That's a little more than the wife and I make, combined.

    • Gold Top Dog

ahhhh... that isn't what I heard.  i could be wrong, but the numbers I heard a couple weeks ago were sickening low.   Maybe I am wrong???

Don't complain about about your salary Billy. Some of us know better how much you make for so little work that you actually have to do. Surprise

Because of the strike, SCRUBS MIGHT NOT HAVE A SERIES FINALE!

OMG!!!! No Scrubs Finale!! Now I'm upset!!

I miss the Daily Show and The Colbert Report. I mean, how am I supposed to know whats going on in the world without the Daily Show? I am joking so no one jump down my throat.

The Fox network is writing Family Guy even with the writers on strike. I imagine we are in for some strange ones.

I understand there reasons for striking. I think I am going to be using my netflix subscription a little more often now until they are done. I can't stand most of the reality stuff that will be unaffected. I do like several shows that are out.

Has anyone seen the commercial for the new Fox reality show where they are going to hook people up to a lie detector machine and make them answer personal questions. Pure trash imho.

I just hope the strike is over in time for Big Love, Weeds and Dexter next year. They are all over for the year now.

i know you say this as a joke, but there have been several times fairly recently when the daily show (yes i am an avid viewer! Big Smile)  scooped a story days before nbc nightly news reported it. how ironic that a spoof news show is sometimes more informative and up to date than "legit" news programs?

They actually do a pretty good job giving real news don't they? I've been watching the show for years. It used to be more fake news, but now they don't need to make stuff up for it to be funny. They get some pretty impressive interviews now too.

A lot of the time The Daily Show actually gives me more news then my local news does. My local news has "Weather on the 5's", lol.
