Husky or Shepherd: Which is best for me (New question...see last post)

I use Firefox and it works fine for me- check your updates?

I see a fair number of Eskies and eskie mixes in the shelters here. I think there is a national rescue group, too, that's pretty active.

One thing to keep in mind about apartments is that while you MAY stay in one for years at a time, but you may not- and if the rental market gets tight, it'll help to have more apartments to choose from. This shouldn't necessarily dissuade you from getting a GSD, but it takes very serious consideration. Dogs live a long time- the chances of you living in the same apartment building or complex for 12-15 years right out of college are really, really low.

Ah It does work. The box is grey in FF which was confusing me. It's white in IE and looks like it can be typed in thank you.

One would hope I would move into a condo ASAP but you point is taken about not knowing where I would be forced to move.

Also, I am curious. I don't think a purebread australian shepherd has a tail. However, I have seen pictures on the internet where they do. Is this because they are a mix of aussie and somethign else?

    Thanks as always!

Many aussies are born with tails but it's not preferred in the breed and many have their tails docked when they are puppies, usually 3 days old.  It's the same for most dogs who don't have tales although some are natural.  Same with many dogs who have sharp pointy ears like the dobe, they are cropped when they are very young.  It's a personal preference and some people don't agree with the docking/cropping so you will see some breeds that don't have the breed "look", however, that doesn't mean they are not full breed.

have you considered a smooth-coated regular collie? these are lovely dogs, much less drivey than most herding breeds but still very trainable and would probably make an excellent frisbee dog/ apartment buddy. And the look may be close enough to your "wolfy" desire to satisfy you..

Mud- the only reason I haven't reccomended smooths is the size issue, and how vocal they are when bored- yes, like shelties, there's a variety but it takes a LOT of research.. :P And while they're LESS drivey than say, Aussies, that's not to say they *aern't* drivey- ESPECIALLY the smooths.
