Newport, RI! (Updated with pics)

My super awesome BF is "surprising" me with a weekend trip to Newport, Rhode Island. We're leaving Friday!!!! Any insider tips? Things we definitely shouldn't miss? Good places to eat? Anything else exciting? Smile (I'm excited!)

based off what i have seen in family guy, i am assuming that newport is a very rich , exclusive area. i am sure that means some good restaurants and thats always a bonus! what else i am not sure Stick out tongue

There are some really good Italian restaurants. If the weather's nice, be sure to do the cliff walk - ocean on one side, the mansions on the other. Also, go through a couple of the mansions (they sell package deals to go through some of the more well known ones like the Breakers). Also, go out to the beaches by following Belmont Ave. I think it's like a five mile ride past beautiful homes and beaches that you can park at, get out and enjoy. Have fun.

I have been to Newport. It is the "cottage" scene of the OBSCENELY RICH!!! I worked a horse show their YEARS ago. People who are so rich they stay out of the public eye. The "cottages" are cool to look at. My house would fit into these cottages more than 10 times. I remember it to be a pretty area. I didn't get to go out to eat while I was there so I can't help with the restaurant scene. I do remember I wanted to go back to the horseshow when I could stay for the whole competition. I had to leave before the weekend for a wedding. Unfortunately the horse show is no longer, but I believe Mason Phelps whose property it was on still live there. BOO KOO BUCKS!!!!

Thanks, guys! I'll give you all a full report when we get back :) The BF and I love Italian restaurants, so we'll definitely look into some good eats! The cliff walk sounds fun, too. Might even force him to be romantic ;) Who knows, maybe I'll even see that one dog from Family Guy walking around there! :-p

We live in RI and one of our favorite places to see live bands is the Newport Blues Cafe, they serve dinner too. They've banned chows so Willow can't come with for rides anymore.

Okay... I promised pictures, so here they are!!

It was a really fun trip, and Newport is a super cute town. We ate at "Scales and Shells" seafood restaurant one night. I ordered bluefish, but they were out of it, so in a fit of extravagance we ordered a wood-grilled lobster. It was SO GOOD. The only downside to the trip was it was kind of cold, as evidenced by my blue lips and poofy jacket, so we didn't get to just walk around as much as I would have liked. It was a super nice weekend vacation, though!!! :)
