Where do your dogs stay?

I'm in an apartment, so the dogs are only ever outside when on walks with me or if I let them onto the deck when it's nice out.

Maggie is mature and has confinement issues so she has free run of the house at all times, whether I'm home or not.  She sleeps in my room, generally on the floor at the foot of my bed or in a corner of the room.

Ziva is still very much a puppy at 8mo, so she is crated when I am gone and at night.  When I'm home she'll be crated when I'm eating dinner, training Maggie, and often when I'm showering.  She stayed at a kennel for a week which has taken her housetraining skills back a notch, so when she's loose in the house she needs to go out every 40mins to 1 hour despite being fine for up to 8.5 hours in a crate.

They're always free to roam the upper level of the house and their yard. They don't have crates. We do have gates that we use sometimes depending on what's going on.

My dog can be inside or outside in the backyard whenever he wants most of the time.  He has four pillow beds inside: one in our bedroom, one in my son's bedroom, one in the computer room, and one in the family room.  At night he sleeps on his pillow bed in our bedroom.  One day a week all three of us are gone too long, work and college, so we leave him in the backyard that day.  He has a pillow bed on our covered deck and a doghouse out in the yard.  He uses both.  We are gone 13 hours that day and it is just too long to leave him inside.  Otherwise when we are gone for a couple of hours he is inside.  He is not destructive inside or outside.  We cannot leave him outside all night or late, even though he loves being out, because he won't stop trying to get possums and raccoons that go through yards at night.  The only time we crate him at night is on July 4 and New Year's Eve.  Otherwise he runs constantly in the house because of fireworks.

Kirby gets the run of the house when I am home.  Being a little velcro baby though that usually means he is where ever I am.  When I go to sleep or leave the house he is crated in my room.  He has a mild case of SA and though he isn't destructive he is calmer and relaxes easier in his crate when I'm gone.

When we are home they both have full access to the house and yard. When we are gone Hektor has the laundry room, garage and yard and Gunnar had free access to the rest of the house.

At night Gunnar has free access, Hektor most often still sleeps in his crate in my room, and sometimes is "tested" by allowing free access. He does well if he has had lots of exercise, he still eats book and magazines and pencils if he was not tired enough at bedtime.

Elmer is only 4 months old.  He has a bed in the kitchen that he drags closer to wherever my feet are.  He spends about 2 hours a day in his crate, but our house configuration makes it inaccessible otherwise.  He sleeps by our bed at night.  If we are in the living, he is on the couch with us.  When I go outside, he comes with me, but our yard does not allow for unsupervised outside time.  I chose this breed because they supposedly like to be with their people all the time.  For now, it's a little forced, in that he doesn't have many choices to do otherwise.  However, he never seems to object.

NIkki has run of the house. She's almost 3 yrs old though.

Logan is in a crate when I'm not home, or able to watch him, and has access to places visible to me when I am home.  He's 16 weeks, though.

They are only allowed outside when i'm home and nearby to keep an eye on them.

They both sleep with me on the bed :)

We have a fenced yard and a doggy door, so Max goes in and out as he chooses.  He's totally 100% reliable in the house so I feel OK about giving him free run inside.  Except when he has to go out to pee/poop, he pretty much stays inside anyway - unless the pool guys come and then he goes outside to schmooze with them. During the day he sleeps wherever he chooses and at night he sleeps up on my bed.

Legend and Ginger have free run of the house. Jules is bossy, so if we're gone for a short time, he stays in his crate. If it will be an all day thing, he stays in the bathroom (plenty of room for an 11 lb guy)

When I'm gone they just roam the house. Luckly, as of right now I live with my parents so they can let them out to go potty when I'm not home, but we also have puppy pads down just in case. I'm so glad ALL of them are potty trained though.

At night they sleep with me - funny thing is, with two small Chis (Tj doesn't sleep in my bed, he prefers the couch) they about push me out of my king size bed! lol. They always lay sideways with their legs all over the place.

Cherokee and my sister's dog Jaz can't be together much (hey, that's better than "not at all", which it used to be), so they've each got a bedroom (mine and my sister's) that they're rotated in and out of. They're both velcro dogs (Cherokee's a little less so than Jaz, meaning she doesn't have to be within 3 feet of someone at all times, lol), and my sister spends most of her time in her bedroom, so Jaz does too. If he's out and she's not, and I'm not actively giving him something to do, he just lays by her door or goes back in her room anyway.

Cherokee's got free run of the house and yard 90% of the time, including when no one's home, and at night, but she always sleeps in my room. Occasionally she'll stay up a little later than me (usually on "possum-watch" in the yard), but she always ends up in my room. She sleeps either in her pop-up crate next to my bed, or my armchair at the foot of the bed. She'll cuddle with me on the bed, and she's always allowed up there, but most of the time she won't sleep with me. Sad Maybe I snore. Big Smile

Jazzy's pretty reliable by himself, but he's a little weirder about the cats, plus he just doesn't know what to do with himself if nobody's around.

Kaiser has free run of the house at all times, but wyatt is still crated. They are  both strictly indoor dogs.

    • Gold Top Dog

Kord is crated if we leave or have to have people going in and out. The rest of the time he has free reign of the place, he has proven tp be reliable.

He is only outside if one of us is with him.

From about a year old Bugs (now a bit over 2)  has been free in the house when we go out.  Prior to then he was crated then given 2 rooms and then we just left it wide open and he's great with that.

When we are here he can do as he likes.  Invisible fence outside and he chooses to spend most of the morning outside, investigating things. and usually has some time outside in the evening too.  He rarely lays down out there he is constantly on the move when out.

At night he was in a closed crate ( he wouldn't sleep if you left it open, made him anxious) until he was about 1.5 yrs old.  Then he slept in his crate, door open, baby gated in our family/bonus room.  Now he sleeps in the family/bonus room in his little area.  Sometimes we still baby gate the door but often leave it open and he chooses to sleep there.
