This is the all time one here:  What entertains me is this...I got carded at the cigarette store the year I turned 40!  That entertains me to this day and it's been (Crying 2 yrs. now).  But giving away free samples of rum at a liquor store would be right up there!  Stick out tongue

2 Kids from one of the autistic support classes come for reading in the learning support class I am student teaching in now (I did my first 7 weeks in a regular class, and just started with this class this week). The AS teacher asked me this morning if I was Ms.(my last name), because the little boy talks about me the rest of the day when he goes to his class. I'm not sure what I did to make such an impression, I haven't taught anything or done much of anything while he's been in the room, but I was happy to hear that, and I love him too.

Oh man, I just go off at the most mundane things. Finding lizards or frogs in rock crevices is one of the great joys of my job. They always look so smug in there where they think nothing can get them. They look back at me as if to say "Normally, I'd be scared, yeah, but right now, I am SO safe." There are also a bunch of really common animals I love seeing. Some species of urban bird I see everyday make me smile. I love it when the pigeons start displaying at each other. I love watching Bonnie wake up in the morning. She shakes her dangly ears out and hops into the open part of her hutch and has a drink and shakes again and looks around as if to see what the day has brought her. When I open her hutch, she stands on her hind legs and pokes her nose over the edge to sniff the fresh air. It just about slays me! Watching Kit move always makes me smile. Watching Penny at her masterful cute routine is always a pleasure. Pretty little wild flowers fill me with delight. People younger than me taking themselves very seriously make me smile, too.

This morning as I was hanging out in the beachside cabin work put me up in, my friend called to tell me there were whales out in the ocean. Once I found them, I sat there glued to the binos for about an hour watching them breach and roll about in the water. I could barely contain myself! I practically screamed when they started breaching. I had to grab a random passerby and force my binos into her hands so I could share the moment with someone. My boyfriend sitting in his office back in the city was somehow not as thrilled as I.

    What "little things" entertain you?

    You'll think I'm silly but...

Listening to  any Pink Floyd CD from beginning to end, with my colored lights on, while lying in the middle of the floor doing absolutely nothing.

Walking outside at night or in the early morning and looking at the stars, identifying constellations and planets.

Walking through the woods and finding tracks and trailing them, seeing different wildlife and then watching the boy acquire the scent.

When I'm playing my guitar and something suddenly makes sense.

When my little girl snuggles up to me (she's normally not a snuggler) and it's not because she's hungry Wink

When I go to get a bagel in the morning and they are still warm from the oven!

When I hit all of the lights just right on the way home from work

Sitting on the front porch in the fall and you can smell the crispness in the air

Hearing the sounds of a high school football game from a distance and just seeing the glimpse of the lights.

The way my mom's house smells after not being home for a long time

The smile on Charlie's face after a nice long walk in the park on a quiet Saturday morning

A gorgeous fall day like we had today.

    ANY shelter animal getting adopted!

The first fire on a cold fall night.

Living in a small town where you know lots of people.

I could go on and on...I do SO have a life!

    • Gold Top Dog

Watching my dog "be a dog", playing at the park with his buddies.

    Listening to a favourite song.

How comfy my bed feels at the end of a long day.

    Chatting with a friend.

Going to get dressed and realising my favourite outfit is clean.

not to mention today is my birthday......and in some years I will be 40

    First, Happy Birthday.

Being in your 40's won't be so bad, except for the advancing decrepitude and time speeds up and 50 is a lot closer than it used to be. And then, as if to remind you, you start getting envelopes from AARP.

Earlier, this week, out in the yard while playing fetch, I got Shadow to drop it and leave it, no tools or treats in hand, though they were used previously to train the behavior or "trick".

Yesterday, I pulled a corny joke and got away with it.

    Knock, knock.

    Who's there?

    Atch.

    Atch who?

    Gesundheit.

    Thankyouverymuch.

I find myself getting very  happy and excited these days if someone who's supposed to show up and do something actually shows up and does it.  Also, I was at a friends house the other night and she said something really sweet.  She said if there's such a thing as incarnation, she wants to come back as my dog ... I'm not really sure if that's  because she thinks I'm a great "dog mom" or if she just has a thing for a weird assortment of strange and colorful bandannas.

I am soooo super-dumb excited that one of my succulent has produced a FLOWER after years of cultivation...

I'm excited that the outside temp is FINALLY below 90 degrees,

But perhaps the smallest thing that makes me the very happiest is riding on a cool fall day in the clear, bright sun with the top and doors off my jeep, cranking Bon Jovi and singing like the next American Idol.....

    edited for spelling.. d'oh!
