Why do people antagonize other people's dogs?! (rant)

My reaction in that instant was totally out of character.  I am not a violent person in the least.  I am very competitive & intense but as a rule I am usually really easygoing.  Unfortunately our antagonizer I just kinda snapped.

    TAPE on your dog's whiskers?!

Lol yea, scotch tape won't stick tight enough to cause pain when it's taken off and it provides just enough annoyance for her to lift her lip to try and get rid of it. It's the same way I caught her "where's your nose" pawing behavior. [:)] I need some predictable trigger that doesn't involve the feelings behind a true snarl so I'm training the lip lift, not the "anger"/"fear" side of things.

I couldn't help myself....I punched her square in the face & broke her nose.

[sm=clapping%20hands%20smiley.gif] she deserved it, she even was disrespectful at you by keep doing it after you ask her not to

My dogs are working dogs, we get this from both kids & adults in public a lot. I never understand it myself.

I had a woman bark at Bevo a few months ago. (Usually it's only men who are stupid enough to bark at a Doberman)  I told her quickly "Don't do that" & she looked me straight in the face & barked again.  I couldn't help myself....I punched her square in the face & broke her nose.  I am usually a really calm person, but I couldn't control myself.  She called the police & pressed charges, but she eventually had to drop the charges because she had no witnesses.  I had 3 witnesses that claimed the she fell.  Through the entire situation, Bevo sat quietly looking at the woman like she was stupid.

I strongly disagree with the others. Punching someone in the face then you and your friends lying about is is really bad behavior. If you were a dog, you'd be unable to lie and would be euthanized.

I've had a very few people bark at Xerxes or at Gaia.  The interesting thing is that they ALWAYS do it in a circumstance where the dog can't come up and say hello in a bit more intimate way.  Not that either of mine would do anything, but when they flash teeth, they look a tad bit *ahem* vicious.

I will totally agree that my behavior was less than stellar, but I have to let you know that I actually never lied.  I was never asked to give a statement at all.  The witnesses were not friends, or even aquaintences, I did not know them at all nor had I spoke to them prior to the incident.  What they said was on their own free will with no coaxing from me at all.  I fully expected to be held accountable for my actions.  With that said I wish that I had handled the situation differently but I am not sorry that I hit her.

Not that I'm one to go around and whooping peoples arses, I don't blame you for your reaction. I'm protective towards my dogs because if I don't protect them, who will? Not only that, I would rather clock someone out then have my dog snap and bite them because the stupid bastard kept antagonizing the dog. A fine and some jail time is way better than having my dog confiscated and euthanized because of some nitwit who messed with a dog, was told not to mess with the dog and did it anyways because she thought she was a hard arse. I bet she won't pull that mess again.

BEVOLASVEGAS already addressed your post, I'm not defending them here, they can do that themselves. I just wanted to add my own thoughts.
Right or wrong... we all know what is right & wrong. I'm proud of people who stick up for themselves. Was this punch crossing the line? Obviously! The woman needed to be humbled & she was. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to let my fist fly in situations like this. One being where a woman called my dog too thin (lean, youthful GSD at the time) argued with me & tried taking my dogs leash!! No I didn't punch her, I had witnesses step in. I doubt any of us who are proud of the punch would do it ourselves, that's not the point. It all comes down to respect, something the world is seriously lacking anymore. In all honesty if the woman (who barked) had any to begin with she wouldn't be bringing something like this on herself.
    • Gold Top Dog
Certainly the world could use more respect and she sounds like a nasty woman, but...

I think my dogs would be far more likely to bite someone if I attacked them than if I turned away and ignored them. There's also the chance she might pull out a gun and shoot someone who has physically assulted her leaving the dogs in need of a new home.

We live by a school and some of the little brats are really bad, but I think we are just noticing the few rotten apples, and I can't afford for my dogs to bite them, so I work hard to teach them to ignore them.
