The black one

    The black one

We took the puppies to a different vet.  He showed us how to feed all of them, gave us the milk and vitamins for mom and antibiotics in case she gets mastitis.  I asked him if he thought we should put them all down, and he said he thinks they deserve a chance to live.  Then before we left I looked in the box and noticed the black one was very stiff.  He was still breathing, but the vet said his pulse was very weak and he probably wouldn't make it and would die on his own in a few hours.  So we had him put to sleep.

The other two, one girl and one boy, are nursing on their own but he still wants us to supplement every 4 to 6 hours.  The little boy is a bit jaundiced he said but he didn't say there was anything we could necessarily do for that.  The little girl, the smallest one of the litter and the first born, is the strongest.  She is quite the piggy.  If we can make it out of this with just one I will thank God.

Poor little guy. [:(] I'm glad you went to a different vet. It sounds like everything is on the right track now. I've been thinking about those little puppies and I really hope these last two pull through.

I am sorry to hear about the two puppies.  But hopefully with the help of the new vet the other two will make it.  I am sure we would all love to see more pictures of the babies.  Good luck with the remaining puppies.

Just wanted to say that so far the status can be classified as "ok."  Both puppies are now nursing, and I'm positive the baby girl is getting milk because she ate so much last time milk came out of her nose.  The new vet said that means they are full?  The little boy is nursing, just not as well nor as long so I'm supplementing him.  The vet said I will know if the formula is going in their lungs because they will cough.  I called him again to ask if I should try tube feeding but he says he really doesn't think I should because they both ate well when he did it.

The little boy pooped a bit after we came home, but the little girl has only peed.  Is that bad?  She's eating the most, I don't understand why she's not pooping.

I'll post more pictures soon.  I just can't bear to upload my camera right now because pics of the others are on there.

YES. Of course, she could have pooped, and you didn't know. Mom will take care of cleanup. The pup NEEDS to be stimulated to poop. If mom isn't doing it, you have to. Pups will die from not pooping.

Any word on the two surviving pups and their mom? Are they getting better or is it too
    soon to tell?
