Would you leave your dog outside a store?

I tie up Blze alot when i go to the convience store. But I just run in and out with in 2 mins. And where i tie him I can see him at all times through the windows.

Same if i go to order a pizza. i will order it, then go back outside with Blaze and stay with him for the 15 mins or so untilt he pizza is done.

He is never left alone for more then 2 mins.

I used to take Shakespeare to the gas station across the street with me.  Id tie him up to a pole that is there and he was fine.  Hes not much for strangers though, so I stopped that.

There is a guy that I run into on the way to work everyday.  He brings his dogs without a leash to the gas station with him.  He sitstays them and goes inside, sometimes he can be there for 10 minutes BSing with the cashiers and his dogs dont move at all.  They dont cause any trouble.  Ive complimented him on his dogs a few times.  Then when hes ready to leave he calls them and they go abou their walk.

Never would I do that, I'd not be able to shop! [:D]

personally, i wouldn't want to risk it. I would worry about the dog being stolen, or someone pestering it. One of my friends left her bull terrier outside of a gas station (in athens, ky...very small town) and someone took it.

I wouldn't, although I was tempted to once when we went for a longer walk than normal and I needed to use a bathroom.

When that happened to me I took Giz into the bathroom with me[:)] Was at a gas station where bathroom doors where on the outside of the building. I've also taken her into the bathrooms at the park as well.

I just could not leave her ouside alone. The idea that she could get loose, chew threw the leash, and run away or get hit by a car, even in a small town, scares me.

It really depends on where you live. I do it every now and then here because dogs are not welcomed in most stores but I walk past the stores I need to run errands in on my walks. This is a very doggy area, quite affluent, everyone has dogs and tying up (or, more impressively, sit-staying) outside of stores is pretty common.

I will only do it if I'm just going to run in for a second and I can keep an eye on them through the front window, and if the sidewalk outside is large enough that my dogs aren't going to impede anyone from walking, even if they want to give them a wide berth.

I did once - and I was freaked out for the whole 5 minutes [:o]

I actually tied her leash to a post, then fastened it with a lock [&:] lol. And she was wearing her harness, so by the time someone figured out how to get her loose, I figured I'd be back. And I was watching her through the store window the whole time.
It still worried me though. She was fine, but I'm not sure I'd do it again.

No, I would never risk it. I don't care how small or nice the town seems, you never know people's true nature until it's too late. [8|]

Never never never never never! I couldn't trust anyone in my city...small white dogs are popular and very stealable.[&:] It'd be more likely I'd just bring her in lol..There are alot of stores that don't care if I bring her in..all home improvement stores..Barnes and Noble..even the mall a couple times lol..

I never would here.  I don't even feel comfortable leaving a dog inside my car.

However, one day we all went for a walk to the video store.  I was going to stay outside with the dog while my husband and daughter went in.  They asked me to come in.  In fact, they insisted.  They all wanted to see her.  They regularly let people with dogs come inside that particular store.  I was very happy to find that out so when I go to the video store now, I can bring in the dog.

Leaving a dog, child or other pet in a car, outside, etc, is not good. Too many tragedies can happen. They need to be with us.

I'm with Ann here, never in a thousand years.

Sofia is too exotic looking for one. For two, she isn't good with kids who are little, she's afraid of them and VERY wary. She'd be terrified if a swarm of kids came by and messed with her.

We don't live anywhere near that we could walk anyway, so it's a moot point. But there isn't anywhere I've lived that I would risk leaving my dog outside the store. Too many scary people, too many dog fighting jerks who would steal any dog just to have for bait. [sm=angry.gif]

I couldnt even if I wanted to.  Crusher would have a hernia.  He goes absolutely berserk if I go into a store, and leave him outside with BF.  My gosh I might never come out again.  Not sure how this happened, but its been the same way since he was 8 weeks old.  He's really not to fond of BF going in without him either, but he will just whine a bit in that case.  If I go, he bucks and screams, and howls and a makes a number of other unimaginable sounds that resemble a dog dying.
