For the most part the dogs looked like they were having a good time.  that lady  though LOL  NOooo!!   How'dja like to be her dog, I mean, when you want your dog to come to you, you make yourself look *inviting* how bout a smile and encouraging behaviors such as clapping or turning your body away slightly hmmmm?  Oy.  I wanted to smack her.

Is that some sort of new breed of levitating flying dog?  I want one - or maybe not...Imagine trying to 'walk' a flying dog.  [:)]

Irishgirl, that's what I thought! That dog isn't even touching the ground! Wait, could that be a photoshop jobbie on that pick? Hmmmmmm

Ha ha.  My dog is barking like crazy now!  I think the dogs all look like they are having fun.  The one in the beginning couldn't wait to get started.  Yeah, that one lady sounded a little mean, though.  Sheesh!

I don't know if its cruel or not, I'm leaning toward cruel.  Work is one thing, but a contest of weight pulling is not work.  I think they are mostly excited to get to their owners, not to pull the heavy weights, especially when it gets up to 1000 pounds!  OMG that one lady sure is mean, what is her problem?  And she thinks thats the way to get her dog to come?  I wonder why they showed that close up on her face.  The rest of people they showed their dogs and stuff but they just showed the close up of that lady's face yelling at her dog.  That was kind of odd.

That lady kind of cowed at the end.  Did you notice her say,"Pull....Pull....NOW...Pull...I have treats.  I have a feeling that her dog is not used to coming to her when harnessed.  Most are trained to wait until the owner is behind them or alongside.  It is possible that her Hike word is Now.  I use UP UP.  Doubt it but its possible.

Crusher says,"I like pulling heavier weight on flat surfaces, cause when my sled is empty, it hits me in the back of my legs and makes me jump when I stop to suddenly."

They don't start at 1000 pounds they start lower and gradually add more weight.  If the dog has trouble with one level they do not progress.  Mushers take excellent care of thier dogs.  Competitive mushers make sure thier dogs are checked regularly.  And yes the dogs genuinely enjoy pulling.  The weight makes little difference to them, its the going forward that matters.

Agree, it was just for a couple feet, if they had to do that every day for miles and miles than maybe that would be too much for the poor dog, how much that distance was? 10 yards? once a year? and they are having a blast [:D]

One of them rather to do it in the snow and the last one was the cutest one ever [:D]

All of the dogs I saw were happy and excited about it. I especially loved the owner that yelled "Cheese burger!". This is what this breed was bread to do "pull". It just gives these owner a chance to show off how good of an example there dog is as a represntive of there breed.

The dogs wouldn't have come if they didn't want to...especially that one lady yelling at her dog. If dogs didn't like pulling we wouldn't need to train them to heel [;)]

I don't think it's cruel, as those dogs were made to pull. [;)]

Dogs do a lot of things they dont want to do, if they are trained right, like coming to you instead of chasing a cat or something.  They do what they are told.  I don't think that lady's dog came to her.
They may have been made to pull but not THAT much weight.

So, by your logic all training is cruel?

You can with no more certainly tell me...that those dogs were UNhappy..than I can tell you they were...unless you ask them and get an answer. All we can go by...is body language (which spoke volumes in this case)...unless you're that creepy English lady from Animal Planet's Pet Psychic.

    I think this is what you'd call..."an impasse" [;)]

No, I didn't say that all training is cruel, all I said is that it is not true that a dog will not do something it doesn't want to do.  I don't know how you got all training is cruel from that.  I'm not trying to convince anyone,  and like I said I dont know for sure if its cruel or not, I just gave a viewpoint.  And I don't recall saying "those dogs were unhappy".  But there are plenty of posts in which it is stated that they were happy, so maybe you should tell those posters they can't tell us that the dogs were happy.
