How Prey driven is your dog???

Joey would definatly chase the squirrel before he ate the treat.

Also, when he gets loose in our neihborhood, which doesn't happen too often, he will choose to sniff around the neihbor's yard and poop in her yard rather than come for a treat.

He will stop everything he's doing if I get in my car though.  Car rides and going places are far better than anything else.

My Greyhound, Tucker, has NO prey drive, however, his TREAT drive is excellently high!! He would definitely pick the treat, and probably wouldn't even notice the prey!

Tasha wouldn't care about a squirrel or any other animal except for a cat which she would try to chase in hopes it would play with her.  She is very interested in pet prey though, such as pet hamsters.

The only prey drive Molly has is for bugs. She sits by the deck doors just waiting for a fly or bug to come. It isn`t instant death either she has to torture it first. No matter how small she has to throw it up in the air 9 billon times. Hopefully its dead. But the times I take the bug away from her its still moving. Anything larger than a bug she runs to mom sits and just barks at it.

Sam would choose the squirrel frist. After he got tired, he would walk back slowly taking his own time and wait patiently for the treat.

Xena would chase the squirrel, run back to me,quick sit, grab the treat, find the squirrel again and spend all day plotting ways to kill and eat it.

With Laika, no amount of treats or calling would get her back if she saw a lizard, rat or cat. She is a dangerous killing machine!

Lizzie she could care less and would definately take the treat. If Laika were there she would take the treat and trot off after Laika and pretend to be interested in the blood shed...lol

A treat????
A treat or a cool squirrel that she can chase???

Uh...squirrel. Treats don't run.

And she wouldn't even come back for the treat.
If I had the leash? She'd never get the squirrel. But she'd sure whine and let me know how unhappy she is about that fact!

My male GSD was raised as an assistance animal & great training went into him ignoring other animals. He comes from strong working lines & if not trained he would be very prey driven. In his case he works on his game 16 hours a day, all other times he's sleeping with a toy in his mouth.

Fergie - not prey driven, and so small that she IS the prey LOL.

Maska - A real mellow fellow, not very interested in small game.  Would alert to raccoons, coyotes, or foxes, but isn't inclined to run after them.  I suspect he was a "dump" for failure to hunt.  Follows his nose to some extent (after all, he is a hound) but will "let's go" when asked.

Sioux - predatory on cats, rabbits.  She ignores birds.  She will take off after prey, but puts the skid boots on and comes when called.

Sequoyah - high drive dog in spades, but will "leave it - come" as well. Both the girls were taught from puppyhood that "come" is NOT optional. [;)]

Even though Sophie is not suppose to have a high-prey drive, she does. She would go after the squirrel in a heartbeat without thinking. She would be dangerous to let lose without supervison b/c nothing will stop her. She would not come back to get the treat nor even remember it. She'll go back to where the critter was and go over and over agian trying to find it. All the time she'll be barking.

LOL Houndlove....good ole reliable Marlow...

Daisy...she would not get up out of bed for either the treat or the squirrel. too much like work!

Kurgan...the treat...without a doubt!

Ranger...he would snatch the treat on his way by to chase the squirrel. He is not going to be made to make choices he feels are unfair or unjust! He will have his cake and eat it to!

Moose...OH my God...Oh my god...what to do...I cant decide...treat...squirrel...treat...squirrel...it is all too much!!!! Call my therapist!!!!
