How about "Oh look, Kato wants a little turkey off your plate"......[sm=rofl.gif]

I will give Kato a little turkey off of MY plate [:D]. I have an entire turkey in my freezer the Air Force gave us for Christmas. Kato can have that too [sm=rofl.gif].  Seriously, I do not like turkey, so....

Being the owner of 2 small dogs, I completely agree with this thread. Shannara and Bubbles are trained and also kept on leashes if we go out. Dogs need to be trained no matter what their size is. Also, I do not enjoy seeing small dogs being carried either unless it is an emergency. Shannara is a pekingese but she enjoys her mile long walks. Bubbles is part JRT and part Beagle,  and I do not think 5 mile walks will tire her out [sm=rotfl.gif].

I have a few people just down the street that do the same thing with there dogs (they just happen to be small). I think that some people think that small dogs dont need training cause as I have as heard from a quote from one of those people "They couldnt hurt anyone like a big dog could["/quote]

I agree; Many times I have seen little dogs at Petsmart or when walking Jessie at the park, pulling on their leash and barking and growling at other dogs and everyone smiles and thinks it's cute; if a large dog behaves that way it's vicious. Jessie was bit several times on her legs by an off leash Chihuahua; she could have easily killed the dog but she's very gentle and didn't do anything. She's also been bitten on the nose by a Mini-Schnauser and snapped at by other small dogs. I think idog members with small dogs probably make them behave better than most other owners because around here I see many more well mannered large dogs than small dogs.

I have owned large breed and small breed of dog.  It is the owner's fault for not training them properly.  Both of my dogs were trained properly.

Small dog training is a huge pet peeve of mine.  Most people let their small dogs get away with horrible behavior, I admit is is easy to let the little ones slide. I was at obediece class last night with Josie (10 month Lhasa Apso) and there was ONE, 1 other small dog out of 15 or so dogs, and I don't thing there were more than 2 in the puppy class before mine.  Of course I don't think the majority of small dogs "get out" that much.  My Lhasas are in NILIF program and I take them out often to try and show people how a small dog should behave and to try and dispel the bad rap Lhasas have.

Good for you LhasaLvr!  My 2 Shih Tzus are also on NILIF, and not because there is so much as a dominant bone in their body, I do it because it makes them feel good to have a job!

I am in a basic obedience class with my foster dog right now, and we HAD 1 small dog in the class at the beginning, but she has not been back.  Maybe she was intimidated by all the large dogs?  I'm not sure why she dropped, but her little guy really needed that class; when it was time to "forward", he would sit and not budge, when we did the sit/stay, he would tangle his leash around her feet and refuse to comply! - it's a shame his owner seems to have given up on him.  I have trained my tzus at home since they were pups, but when I finish this class with my big guy, I'm enrolling my tzus next.  They are about 15 mos old and I had scheduling conflicts with when the class was offered in my area up until now.

Thank you for struting your well-behaved Lhasa - I love Lhasa's too!

    Hey Tzumommy!
We have a Tzu also, he is our senior, estimated at about 17 !  [:D]

I know mine are always so excited to go to class.  Suds just got his Rally Advanced title.   And Josie, well she is an adolecent so needs constant reminders of how to behave and who is in charge.
I think you are right about the intimidating factor (owner or dog?[;)])  It takes more than once or twice sometimes for them to get comfortable working in a group, I have a friend I talked into bringing her Lhasa, he has been to dog shows, but he started out a little nervous -tail was down, and it has taken several classes for him to get comfortable and not distracted.

Have fun in class with you Tzus- I am sure they will love it!
