Is it possible to soundproof my dogs crate?

you can't leave a puppy that age in a crate for more than an hour or two. They can't hold their bladder that long and you will force the pup to potty where he sleeps, a total disaster as far as future housebreaking goes. If you must leave a pup alone all day you have to confine the pup in a room or x-pen with a potty pad available cause he's going to have to potty somewhere.

It's NORMAL for a pup to make a lot of noise when first isolated. The way you fix it is to wait until he's quiet and then go let him out. So he learns "noise" gets him nothing and quiet gets him attention.

You should try & keep her in a confined area/room or expen, maybe more room will alleviate the need to bark.  You can also try a dog walker, they are usually cheaper than doggie day care.  Here are some links: http://www.petsit.com/ or http://www.dogpages.net/vendors/walking.htm

I have a 3month old pup that I got at 8wks old & I got her used to being in a confined room that has her crate, wee wee pads, water & toys & at night she sleeps in a crate in my bedroom.  I initally took 2 weeks off from work to get her used to the house & now i have a dog walker that comes at lunch to feed & play with her. I live in an apt also & was so scared about her barking & getting complaints

I justed wanted to give you some hope on this topic... I adopted a 9 month old lab from the humane society in the beginning of the summer.  I live in an old house that was converted to 4 apartments, so there are the perks of having a fenced yard, but we still had to deal with neighbors when we first brought her home and she would bark if we put her in the kennel adn she couldn't see us.

Our solution.... For one month we took her to my mom's house before work and picked her up after work.  She just barked her way through the day there but fortunatly no one could hear her there.  We tried all of the above suggestions and nothing worked, we thought we were screwed, but this "tough love" got her used to the kennel and after about 3 weeks she knew that we would always come home from work and there was nothing to worry about.  We video taped her everyday and she gradually just stopped the barking.

I admit that owning a dog in an apartment is not ideal especially a puppy and there are always different opinions on these forums about it but have hope it gets better.

I wasn't trying to be mean when I said to find a good home for your puppy. I just cannot imagine soundproofing a crate. The only way to do that, and I doubt it would work, would be to completely cover it in some way and what kind of life is that for any animal???? It's equivilent to putting the puppy in a closet and leaving it there for 8 hours. Not acceptable. If you can create a cozy area in your home with wee wee pads, play, chew and cuddle toys, blankets, etc.... that would be ideal. It's not easy raising a puppy - it's sort of like raising a baby - I've done both and both are exhausting, but fulfilling - if done right. Sure, "right" can be subjective - some people think it's "right" to leave a dog chained to a tree forever with no human contact, no shelter, no food/water..... I'm not implying that you would do that, but you can do the right thing for your puppy and think about what sort of environment you would want to be in if you had to be left alone for many hours a day. I'm not perfect, but I try to do what's best for my girls. I wish you and your puppy luck and a happy life.

Your puppy might be lonely when you leave.  I'll put the TV on when I leave the house for Misty so that maybe the sound of voices will make her think she's not alone.  Not sure if it actually works, since I'm not there, but it couldn't hurt.  Don't put the volume up loud of course, but give it a try.  Also, do you leave any toys or anything like that in the crate to maybe keep him busy?  You could try that too.  Good Luck!

Yes, I also leave my tv on for them on a cartoon channel or something like Nickelodeon, something happy sounding! I think it beats a silent house all day long.

just wanted to say about the TV solution, that it doesnt work for all dogs. it's always worth a try, but mine actually got worse from it. it kept them from settling down.

now i turn off all the lights, close the curtains etc. this way the dogs just go to sleep... it really depends on the dog, i guess..
