The dog upstairs - advice needed

Job well done! And maybe you could make her a present of a kong toy and teach her how to use it. Jack Russells need LOTS of stimulation and exercise. No wonder he's going bonkers alone all day! That's so great that you and the boyfriend will walk him. That ought to help a lot.[:)]

I think you did a fine job, and stayed on good terms with your neighbor.  Win-win.

Thats great! Some people can be a little defensive at times so it could have been an ugly situation - glad she is a responsable dog owner and a generaly good/nice person. Hope you guys can work it out from there - good luck!

Sounds like it went very well. Good for you.

Good job!  I'm glad the neighbor was just as nice about it as you were... if only that could happen more often!

    Good on you, mate!

When we got our nasty note, it was anonymous, so we had no way of opening up a dialogue with the person. We even went door to door in our neighborhood and no one would admit to writing it. It was incredibly frustrating. Since the note didn't state when the barking was occuring or where they lived that they could hear it (we live in a house, not an apartment), we had a hard time trying to figure out what to do about it. If it was someone on one side of us, I could move the dogs to another part of the house. But I had no idea.

And the most irritating part is that now that we've solved the problem, with no small amount of trouble and expense to us, no one has left a note saying, "Thanks for shutting your dog up."

Isn't it nice when something you're dreading turns out okay?  Good for you and your neighbor.  [:)]

Glad it went well. That breed sure needs a lot of playtime and exercise. Hope she can walk and play with him more often. It must get very boring for him. You handled it well.

It sounds like your lucky enough to have a nice neighbor.  I've had a few jerks so I don't take my good ones for granted.  But, how did you end up saying you'd walk him, didn't you say you didn't have time?

What a great neighbor!  Kudos to you for approaching her like that.  Glad it turned out well for you.

I once had a neighbor who lived above me.  He had a big German Shephard.  He was gone all day so he left his patio door open all day so that the dog could go out on the patio during the day.  The problem was we had wooden slated patio decks.  His dog would go out on to the patio during the day and pee down onto my patio.  The last straw was when he ;peed down right on my daughter's little chair.  I went upstairs with the chair in hand and knocked on the door and told him what was going on.  He was very nice and apologized profusely but never changed anything.  We were moving anyway so I didn't say anything again but I hear the lady that moved in after us tried to have him evicted.

OMG Vita, I can't believe your upstairs neighbor wouldn't even try to correct a situation like that.  I'm sure there's stuff that would fill in the slats, and if he couldn't do that, he could  have gone to any hardware store for a huge rubber, hoseable mat and put it on his patio. Can you imagine having company and sitting out on the patio and having the dog upstairs pee on somebody? [:'(]
