Paula...that is very interesting...I am not sure what happened with my greyhound gumby that I mentioned but it was a horrible experience and even my vet was totally shook up and crying...saying she had never seen a dog react like that. Perhaps it is more common in sighthounds then?

I wonder this myself. Are we just comparing anecdotal evidence or do sighthounds have some metabolic peculiarity with regards to sedation as they do with anesthesia. It is probably worth a lit search.

Oh, that poor sweet girl.....I am so sorry you had to go through that. At least she was with you, and there was someone who cared about her.

I'm so sorry for both you and Shelby. I wonder if the previous owners knew she had a heart condition or something?

Gosh, that's just heartbreaking. Poor girl. At least she's at peace now.

] I've worked at vets and animal shelters before and there have been several times at the shelters that I left in the evening and the next morning found a seemingly healthy animal dead. I was always very shaken and upset by it. I've also held animals while they were being put to sleep and that was always awful too. [

]

But one thing that's never happened is what you describe of an animal just dropping and dying. That's a really traumatic thing to see and again I'm really sorry that it happened.

Our dog Anna had a ruptured valve in her heart, which caused all kinds of problems, but on the morning of her final day, she awoke with a scream and her neck outstretched. ER vet figured it was another rupture. Wonder if was something like that in this dog? A lot of people find out about health problems and then turn the dogs in to the shelter. Poor thing, abandoned, scared and died in pain. At least she knew some moments of pleasure and play right before she died.

Sorry about what happened to the dog, I've held my mothers old lab when they
put her to sleep-she was 12 and in pain from a lot of things, and we all cried, but
we were at least expecting it. Are you at Lifeline for Pound Buddies? I only ask
because we adopted both our dogs from them, even though we live in Grand R apids.
