Neighbor/Fence Vent

Minimom...Your fence is beautiful! And I feel your pain! Really, I do. Same scenario. There are two kids living next door, but the two kids have about 15 friends who come over and play in their backyard fort, I guess you could call it. Lucy would go crazy barking at them because they would come tearing back there and scare her, or even worse they would scream or run towards her. Something had to be done. My BF and I decided to put up a wooden privacy fence (he still hates me for making him help). Let me tell you, I didn't realize it would be so difficult! We worked two straight 12-hour days just to get the posts in! We hit everything...concrete, rocks, roots, etc. Then it was finally done...and we could relax knowing that Lucy was safe and secure and wouldn't have to deal with neighbor kids...we were so proud of ourselves.

...then she started barking her head off one day. I look over to see that the next door neighbors got a trampoline, and every kid in the neighborhood was jumping on it. All Lucy saw was bouncing kids over the fence, and it was loud and squeaky every time they bounced!! [sm=smack.gif]

But the fence is still the best decision ever. At least I know she is safe. [sm=wink2.gif]

Not that this is a solution for you but..........

This kind of thing is why I moved to Alaska. [sm=smack.gif]

    Kelly,

    Nice fence.

The tree house is truly horrid.  If it were me and it was a neighbor I was cordial with, I'd invite him over for coffee and to share your "view" and see if that made a dent in his noggin.

I was wondering.... that monstrosity looks like it would be considered a "structure."  In our lovely city, there's a setback zoning law, that any structure has to be 15 feet from the lot line.  Any chance you've got a rule like that there?

I sure wouldn't be inviting this peeping tom over!  The guy was oogling her as she sat in her sunroom!!!  But, the set back rule is GOOD thinking!

lol, actually Glenda I don't think he was truly oogling me.  I think he was just up there doing something and saw me sitting in my sunroom and decided to wave at me.

I believe the set-back rule here is 5 feet and since it was built and installed by a professional company, I'm sure it's within code.  We don't really know them, we introduced ourselves when they first moved in and said howdy a few times when we'd see one another out in the yard (before we put up the privacy fence).  But even if we got to know them really well - this thing is not something that could be easily moved.  The photo doesn't show the entire thing, there is another 12 or more foot section that sticks off the side that holds 3 or 4 swings and a big slide that comes down the front of it...and it is all concreted in.

I'm afraid we are stuck with it.  We'll probably plant a couple fast-growing tall evergreens along the fence there.

Well, anyone who stares in at ME is gonna get MOONED!!!  Too bad my rear isn't fat and ugly anymore or I'd loan it to you!!  Well, it's not fat anyhow....butts aren't exactly pretty regardless of the size.[:'(]

    LMOA Glenda!

I wonder if you could have the kids come and play with your dogs for a while since you arent really on bad terms with the neighbors.  Maybe if they did that the dogs wouldnt have as much of a problem with them playing up there.  And it would probably solve the rock throwing thing if the kids thought of your dogs as friends.  Its too bad it is such an eyesore.  Those kids are lucky to have something to play on though.  And it is nice that their house is a place for neighborhood kids to hang out.  As much of a dog person as I am , I always want my kids friends to know that they are welcome here.

Have your husband parade around the sunroom saturday morning in women's underware--that'll fix them!

Or you could sit in the back yard with the hose and soak the little cretans everytime a rock flies near your dogs. You can probobly guess why we are looking to move to a semi-rural area....

This fence thing is really odd to me! Doesnt every neighbour have a "privacy" as you call it fence inbetween their yards?

Every  house in Australia(exceptions ofcourse) has a private,at least 6 foot tall fence between neighbours, unless you live in a double story house you cant see into your neighbours yard.Do people actually live next door to eachother with no fences or little picket fences etc?

There are actually many communities here that do not allow fences at all.

    WHAT [sm=eek.gif]

Now i understand a little better when people here talk about dog theft! Most working people leave their dogs out in the yard when they go to work, alot have doggy doors. That would be impossible without a fence. No wonder crates are so popular in the US.

    Sorry about the bad situation.

Neighbors are the pits especially when they are neighbors like that. I'm dealing with my own neighbors and their d*** cats. The neighbor keeps griping about Blue going out and useing the bathroom while his cats are near by Blue. He even stop his trunk in the middle of the road to save his cats from Blue while Blue was minding his own business. Blue has never hurt these cats yet he act like this.

Here is what we should do with your neighbors fort and my neighbor..

Even leaving the dog in a fenced yard here is very risky if you are not home.  There was a story recently in the town next to me where a woman's pit bull was stolen right out of her fenced yard.  Luckily someone heard him barking in an abandoned garage before he was fought or sold or whatever they were going to do--but you have to be careful here.

Personally, I much prefer privacy fences whether I'm walking Sally, walking alone, or horseback riding.  With the invisible fenses you get to guess if the dog is going to run out after you or be stopped by a fence--no fun.
