    "showdogs moms and dads"

Did anyone here ever watch that series entitled "Showdogs Moms and Dads"? I used to catch it on TV. I don't show dogs, so I found it quite interesting. Also, that was where I first heard about BARF.

I caught it on satellite TV over here.  I thought that the woman with the Aussies was great, and she had beautiful dogs.  The Weim was beautiful too, but her owner really got on my nerves, as did the couple who owned the Toy Fox Terrier.  I found it interesting, because I know nothing about showing dogs, but the factual side of things was dulled a little by all the over-the-top owners they found.  I think they went looking for the most sensational characters they could find.

There are a fair number of folks in the fancy who are pretty close to those "over the top" people.  Best In Show the movie is a really funny satire about the dog fancy as well.  There are many folks who find the members of the dog fancy very strange.

There have been lists of attributes that are used to tell if you have gone over the top where dog shows and dogs in general are concerned.  They are quite amusing.  They typically talk about dinner conversation that include elimination habits and consistency of your dogs feces.  That bitch is a commonly used word in your vocabulary with talking about dogs.  That you think about breedings three, four and five generations in the future.....

I know a number of people that live on the edge of poverty with respect to maxing out credit cards, sleeping cars, forgoing meals etc, to take their dogs to a show.

Bumping this up to ask if anyone knows what happened to this show? Was it cancelled early or something?

I've seen it, very funny show. I don't think it was canceled, it showed for weeks, then didn't show for weeks then it was on again, don't know what happened to the season finale. I'd seen it before though.

I've seen a few episodes on Animal Planet.  Yes, the woman with the Weim was difficult to take.  I usually ran for the potty when she came on.  Big Smile  If I'd been the vet she went to when her dog sliced it's paw, I'd have throttled her!  I can't believe they let her in the room!  She and her dog are clearly very talented, but OI! I can take about 30 seconds of her!

It wasn't cancelled, it was only planned to run for a certain number of episodes. Not an on-going thing. They followed the people for a period of time, put together the episodes, and that's all there is.

Oh I see, I didn't know that. I thought it would run for longer then it did. I think it was a really interesting show and I was wondering what happened with the Wippet people.

That show had me cracking up, but was also disturbing for me.....I can not understand how some people let this type of lifestyle take over their lives the way it showed in some of the episodes.....

according to a fellow - retired from showing dogs, but still follows the circuit as a vendor - he said that show AND Best in Show are too much to reality for his liking lol

i have to say my favourites from SDM&Ds was the GSD lady and the Whippet couple. they were too funny, especially when the woman bought a new bed frame without telling her hubby and then expected him to help set it up lol reminded me of my in laws.

i liked the Weim lady because she actually did field work with her dog, but yeah she did grate on my nerves a bit.
and the toy fox terrier guys.... wanted to do more than throttle them! the way they treated that dog, the way they whined all the time, the way they fought all the time..... i mean jeez! i swear i think the producers paid a couple of guys to spice things up.

each group had their moments... the Aussie lady annoyed me a bit with her son.. i couldnt tell if he was really interested in the dogs or just doing it so she would spend time with him.

Showing is addictiveSmile It's very rapidly taking me over. Emma and I were entered in our first show on her fourth birthday (Oct 13 of last year). Now, I've got a conformation puppy. We show every month, at least. I'm learning show grooming on different breeds, and handling other peoples' dogs. It's a blast. I love it.

i'd be lying if i said it wouldnt be interesting to get into showing but i want to do it all lol field trials, bench shows, obedience, agility and all that jazz lol

i would have done all that with Kaydee except for her accident. But dont tell her she cant lol

I started doing just Rally O. Now, I do obedience and conformation, too. Emma will do earthdog and tracking, when she's finished with obedience. I don't do everything at once, because she's just not that high drive dog that wants to do everything. Ena Bean will do conformation and rally, first. She'll move on to obedience probably while she's still in conformation. I don't know about tracking or anything else, yet. Unfortunately, they don't let Chinese Cresteds or PRT lure course, in the AKC. I wish they did! Both of them would LOVE that!

"I was wondering what happened with the Wippet people."

Interestingly enough, I saw them at a show about 2 weeks ago. He was actually suspended from judging for a bit because of that show. He bad mouthed a judge on the show and when AKC found out about it, they revoked his license for a period of time due to bad sportsmanship. He is back to judging now and they are still showing their whippets.
