Wow, I just finished watching that video Gayle, it's well done :)

I have said before several times, I'm no fan of PETA, I hope that everyone who "supports" them does a little research before wasting their money. There are much more reputable and honest animal charities out there.

I agree, and I run one of them.  At least our donations go directly to help senior citizens whose pets need care that they can't afford.  But, I still see people leaving money or asking that donations go to these fanatics. [:'(][:@]

As a vegetarian and someone concerned with the rights of animals (including the rights of domesticated animals, who belong living in harmony with humans, not set "free" or seen as "slaves") I have a real ugly spot for PETA because they give the rest of us a really bad name. Most of the time when people bad-mouth "animal rights types" they're thinking of PETA and PETA's even more radical off-shoots. They have bad tactics and bad taste and don't represent all of the people concerned with the ethical treatment of animals, though they like to present themself like they do. I hate that they try to make like they're speaking for me when they absolutely are not. And then I have to go around apologizing for my own beliefs and trying to convince people that no, I'm not a terrorist, and no, I'm not going to set any lab rats free and yes, I have pets that I love very much (and no, I don't make them eat vegetarian food).

I originally post much material about PeTA and I appreciate your bringing this up again. More people need to know what a toxic and twisted organization it is. Their killing of pet animals is atrocious! Pet animals are NOT slaves!

Houndlove, you are absolutely right. I respect your choices and I'm also glad to hear you don't make your pets eat vegetarian food. [:D] I was a vegetarian for ten years until my metabolism changed and it just didn't work for me anymore. (I got insulin-resistant, not a good thing.) If people use thoughtful, considered common sense things seem to work out far better.

    Fanaticism is always a drag.

My understanding from a friend who is a big advocate of PETA is that they are very anti-pet. They view it as more ethical to euthanize animals than adopt it out because they don't think people should have the power to have "pets," and that having a pet is in itself torture to the animals.

I could be wrong, but that's how it was explained to me.

So the high percentage of euthanizations doesn't surprise me.

Well, if my dogs could talk, I'm sure they'd say, "Bad human! Bad! How dare you let me lounge on this couch, play with these toys, and take care of my every need?! Torture, I say! Torture!!"[8|]

that is so true. my dh likes to lump all vegetarians in with PETA, i have had many arguments with him trying to explain how not eating meat has nothing to do with worthless organizations like peta, but he still associates the 2 [sm=rolleyes.gif]

I was just looking at this page too, there is a petition you can sign if you are interested to try to get PETA's tax exempt status revoked. I just signed :)

it is good to try to make a difference, but it should be known that internet petitions hold no merit in a court of law.
