Why are you attracted to your breed?

    • Puppy
I admire my breed because they are my idea of the ultimate dog. GSDs do it all, in my opinion they are the most versatile breed.

Australian Shepherd - beauty and brains !!!

    • Bronze
I love Poodles because there is such a wide variety of colors and sizes.  They also have good dispositions and don't shed too much, which is good because my mom is allergic to dogs.

Gina- oddly enough, my Cardis' breeder had akitas and switched to showing Cardis when her daughters came along. :P I guess it's a common thing? Sort of sad- I hadn't realized akitas were considered bad with children- I have three friends who grew up with them and they were great dogs! (In fairness, two of the dogs in question were not very typical- they'd come frmo Japan with the family when they moved here and I suspect are not much like the american dogs.)

I like pointy eared dogs, preferably with foxish tails, responsive attitudes and a desire to work WITH people- or, failing that, work, period. :P A thick, preferrably fluffy coat is a bonus.

    What a silly question.

German Shepherds and border collies.  I like the fact that they think things out, look you in the face, the gentle hearts, the personality.

There are other great breeds but these tend to be the pups that I flock to the most.

hey I think I know of your breeder then...I've been to her site. I think she got her Akitas from Lisa Coffey at Liric? Small world! lol...

It's not so much they are bad with kids...it's just their iffyness with other dogs. I don't ever want my kiddos in the middle of a dog fight...it is so terrifying..esp with large dogs. You pretty much NEED kennel set ups when you have more than 2 and that's a lot to undertake. My Beagles can all run together most of the time...and tho they can be snippy with each other it's no where near the life or death issue it always seems to be with Keeters!

Well, jayda, my current dog.. is not my breed of choice. She was originally my sisters', but I have claimed ownership. Despite her arguments, "I paid for her!" [8|] But I love her nonetheless. [:D]

My favourite breed of all time is the newfoundland. How I love those big black bears of drooling love. [:)] They are docile, sweet, and love everyone. Of course, every dog is different, but nonetheless... And their coats! gorgeous.

German Shepherds, because they're my idea of the 'ultimate dog' as someone else already said. They're beautiful, intelligent, athletic, able to do just about anything! I don't know many GSD's personally, so I don't have too much experience with their specific personalities, but I hope to get to know them more and own one, at least, one day!

I will probably come off as a "breed snob” but I do have a favorite breed and as long as I have the ability to own dogs, I don't think I will ever own anything but a sighthound (and at least 1 of my dogs will always be a retired racing greyhound).

      I love them for:

      their beauty, grace and elegance,

their intelligence and sometimes almost human-like understanding

their absolute silly ways (THEY ARE SILLY ALL THE TIME!!)

their gentleness, and love for humans (despite the fact that many greys should despise humans for how horribly they are treated and how disposable they are seen by many)

their obedience and need to please you because you are their world.

I could go on and on, but I think I will stop with just these![;)]

    That's beautiful.

I love my pharaohs for the most of the same reasons, except that they aren't really loving or trusting of most humans, in fact they are pretty aloof to most strangers.

I love them for their intelligence, problem solving skills (they can do things that would make a human go...WOW) their independence.

I love them for their grace, power, speed and beauty.  Once you've seen a sighthound run, and I mean really run-you will always remember it.  It is at once beautiful, awe inspiring and happy.  You can almost see the spirit of the dogs grow and glow.  I love them for their seriousness and the way they look almost regal at times, as if passing judgement and second guessing everything you do (like they could do the laundry better.)

I love them for being stubborn and "hard to train," bossy, assertive and talking back.

I love the fact that I can go check the mail downstairs and when I come back up every cushion or pillow in the entire house will be on the living room floor.  I love the fact that Xerxes will allow the cat to push him away from his bowl but then come get me to guard him so he can eat.

In short, I'm one of the very few that can put up with the breed and I knew this going in, and I'll never NOT have at least one Pharaoh Hound in my life and warming my bed up for me.

so I don't have too much experience with their specific personalities, but I hope to get to know them more and own one, at least, one day!

Well we should have met when we lived in Chicago!

My favorite breed is the Akita. I admire their independance and their innate dignity.

They do not fawn...do not really care one way or another how you'd "like" them to be,....because they are "older" and wiser than you...lol! They are tremendously beautiful and powerful...and again...I have never, ever encountered another breed that can match them for dignity.

If one decides to love you, and trust you, and answer to you, then you know it goes beyond the fact that you give them structure or food, it is because they respect you... which is admirable.

I do not care overmuch for fawning, overly needy dogs...which actually is what I have now, lmao.

My family situation has changed, and thus my breed has changed...to Beagles. They are endearing, and I love the ones I have, and I enjoy many traits of the breed as a whole...but if my circumstances allow it someday I will go back to Akitas...even if only to own one as a pet.

Well said Gina.  I love 'em too.  I just don't like that double coat-I'm lazy about cleaning house anyways and I know how furry the apartment would be.  But on the other hand I could have the door unlocked at all times and never ever worry about anything being taken...[:D]

Am Staffs are noted as people lovers among those "in the know".  However, they can and WILL protect you with their last breath if need be.

I prefer dogs who don't fawn over me excessively.  All of the Am Staffs I have known are very glad to see you, but don't have to be with (or ON) you every moment.Gypsy uses her brains to decide who is friend or foe without me telling her. She guards the house and her family (inlcuding "her" cats!) at all times, but can be downright silly once she knows that a person is OK.

I also like the wash and wear sort of dog and an Am Staff is that.  I bather Gypsy once a week and shave her muzzle.  That's it--no trips to the groomer, no extended stripping sessions, no barettes, no ribbons--NADA.  That's the kind of person I am and I prefer my animals to be the same way!

The first thing that attracted me to Shih Tzu was that adorable Ewok face! [:)] After that I was really impressed with how calm, cool and collected most Shih Tzu are. I love how sweet and devoted they can be, but also independent and not clingy. I also really like their size- small but sturdy and I like that they come in an entire rainbow of colors. Another trait of theirs that I really like is that they don't shed. Really I could go on for days about how awesome Shih Tzu are. [;)]

Bunni- I LOVE that pic of 5 or 6 Poodles all lined up on the couch! They're all in the exact same position stacked like Poodle legos. [:D]

There is really no question of which dog I love, the GSD has been my family's breed since I was a child. I love everything about them.

Outside of the GSD I love all large dogs, Danes, Collies, Wolfhounds, and the like.
