She is so cute...and looks like she has quite the outgoing personality.  I'm just curious about your choice of a litterbox over potty pads?  When we were waiting for our house to be rebuilt and rented a house, I trained our puppy on the pads and they worked really well.

My nephew's chihuahua used a litter box.  He learned to very quickly and it has never been a problem for anyone.

Please post more pictures when you can and let us know the name that you decide on.  I repeat, she is really cute!

Exactly why is he getting rid of the dog?  There could be something terribly wrong with her.  I telling you this just in case you're looking for a healthy dog.  Also, you might want to hesitate, and really think about whether both the Pug and Shih Tzu are right for you, as this is a mix of both.  Anyway, back to your question, I don't think that Pugs are under 10 pounds.  I think Shih Tzus are either 10 pounds or a little over.

Ooops.....sorry.  I didn't realize it was a little late.  But maybe the info could still be useful!

I think we are going to stick with Tasha.  I will post more pictures if I ever find my camera :(

Well she got rid of her because she is a 71 year old woman who got a 3 month old puppy and then after 3 months realized that she just cant keep up with her.  I'm pretty sure Tasha is healthy :)  She gave me her vaccine records and shes totally up to date.  Due for boosters in July.  She came with a car seat, bed, puppy pads (which she just ignores but shes already wee'd all over the house, she does go outside too though), chew toys, dog food, dishes.

I think cat litter is cheaper than puppy pads and less messy.  I've used puppy pads before and the potty leaks through fast.

    Oh my yes...lol!
"Age differences" can work, but it definitely takes a lot of work! Good on you for helping out and now you have a cute new friend, looks like! She's a sweetie....I do love Pugs, tho my personal passion is for the black ones!

Some pups will eat cat litter so do be careful with that...the type that clumps when wet can lead to some pretty bad things in the gut! I have heard the Pine or newprint based ones are best for dogs for that reason.

    Good luck!

Cairnterriers, I just noticed the links you attatched, that is the exact site I looked at before I agreed to get Tasha :)  i did notice that the weights are higher than 10 pounds, I just wanted ask about it anyway since the lady was saying the opposite.  Even though she will weigh a little more, I'm happy I decided to get her!  I'm glad everyone is posting with all of this advice and information, keep it coming :)

Lilea, I am glad you are adopting this dog so that she won't be abandoned.  Good job![sm=wink2.gif]  She sounds like a healthy dog to me.  You are going to have so much fun with her as you bond.[:)]

    Pug-zu puppy!

I wonder why they are giving her up.  It may be because she was hard to housebreak - a dog should be fully trained by six months of age.  If she is completely paper trained, though, perhaps you could put the papers in the litter box.

Having her use the same litter box as your cat will almost certainly result in your cat soiling in the house.  Cats are very fastidious and will often shun a litterbox that someone else has used, even another cat.

It sounds like you are a newbie owner.  Good book for you:
"Little Dogs - Training Your Pint Sized Companion" by Deborah Wood.  You can get it on dogwise.com
Good luck with your new furkid.
