SO angry...inadvertantly "saved" a puppy...sorta.

Only the heartless could flame this and we'd flame them.

Spritdogs always has the answers but let me just add to it. At 3 weeks the pups starting eating tiny bits of their mother's food. It needs to be very soft. I use high quailty canned food and add hot water so it's like gruel. As they eat more you can thicken up the mix more. In this baby's case I'd dilute the food with formula instead of water.

Keep feeding him the formula but offer them the food first. This way they'll get used to eating and will eat more of it. If you offer the formula first they'll fill up on that and won't start eating well as fast.

They can also drink small amounts of from a bowl at this age so measure out your formula and let him drink as much as he will from the bowl (more like a saucer) then feed him the rest by bottle.

Don't forget to leave him clean water that he can reach because even this young he can drink some of it and one of your major with is always dehydration.

    Good Luck!!

We need a national ad spot during NASCAR season and on every hunting and fishing show. That's the target audience that needs the education. Of course, that means they would have to set the beer down and pull their hand out of their pants, but I have faith, as misguided as I may be.

    Hahahaha, are you stereotyping people???

    You do speak the truth.......[;)]

    are you stereotyping people

Absolutely. A redneck, by any other name would still .... be a redneck. BTW, a redneck can have any skin color but usually it's some white guy who, if he knew half as much as he thought he did, would be a generally competent adult. But that is asking a lot, though.[:D]

Just a thought, if you leave "Moses?" in the crate, perhaps you could clip a water bottle up for him?  He'd have access to water, but no spilling from a bowl.

Ron,[sm=rofl.gif] you are cracking me up!

Bless you for saving Moses!  He's so cute it should be illegal.

I'm so glad you saved him! Please keep us posted on what you find out about shutting down the idiot animal abusers at the flea market!

Ugh that makes me furious and sad and proud of you, ratsicles for doing that.

I don't know what I would have done. I was faced with a lot of similar situations when living in China, but it was just not an option for me to do what you did there, so I just fumed.

    Hey Ratsicles,

I'm crying hearing about those pups.  My God.  The guy was such a jerk.  4 weeks old and ripped from mom.

You totally did the right thing.  I'd have done the same and then afterwards wondered what the heck I was gonna do now.

Good luck and big sloppy kisses from my gang (and they don't kiss just anyone!)

I hope everyone doesn't completely flame me for this...just know that I really did have the best intentions.

Don't woory.  It's a VERY sticky situation.  You should buy the dogs just to save them, but in the process of doing so, you would be supporting this cruelty.  Maybe you could notify the police if you ever see something like that again...

Ratsicles - What a very sweet and cute puppy. You did good - real good. I do however feel sorry for the rest of the pups left behind. I so hope you find the means to shut this guy down forever. Good luck to you and the new pup.

loveyakaykay - I love those pictures.

I would have done the same thing. Who is anyone to say?? Really. We all do what we feel is right, noeone has the right to judge, there are far worse things to worry about, I mean important things,. Bless his little heart, boy did he luck out!!! What a great home he'll have with you[;)]  Now that Im past 40, I realize, I live for me, my Hubbie and my babies ( doggies) I do whats best for us as a Family, people may not always agree with me, thats ok, I don't always agree with people either, Ive learned if you don't agree with people and ridicule, you get shown the other way real quick[;)] Good job!!!

You know, there is a difference between saving a life because you feel pity (going to a BYB, see the horrible conditions and then decide you're going to "save" a puppy rather than leaving it there), and saving a life because that puppy is going to suffer some true horrors at the hands of an idiot.

People who go to BYBs are usually well intentioned and do not know any better.  When you're standing there and you don't know any better whacha gonna do.  When you go and feel you have to "Rescue" a puppy, well, I disagree there.  There will be some other well intentioned sap that will come along and buy a puppy (who may or may not end up a nightmare dog).

What you did Ratsicles wasn't something done out of stupidity, or something you considered.  You were emotional, yes, but unlike the usual people who go to a BYB with good intentions and are likely going to try and raise the pup to their best abilities, you saved a puppy that would have gone home with stupid, dumba$$ morons who were actually considering chopping off its ears and tail with SCISSORS.  No normal person I know would do that, BYB bought dog or not.

You saved a puppy from mutilation, and likely, death.  I would call the police, as others have stated, and try and save mom, dad, and the rest.  There is (to me) a difference between going to some crappy breeder, going 'I know better' and laying down your $250, and listening to somebody advocate cruelty, seeing red, slamming down some bills, and running off with a pup to save it from KNOWN cruelty rather than "it might happen" cruelty.

AW! I like the 5th picture...puppy is looking at your big bulldog, and it looks like the bulldog is saying, "you talkin' to me, kid??"
    • Gold Top Dog
What a cutie pie! I am soooo glad you took him in.
