Good luck Ron! Ditto on the hair - sometimes it's pretty cool when a long-time long hair wearer tries the short look. Cool literally too, of course, but you never know what will happen. I had mine cut three years ago and it turned out I had really curly hair! Now I wear it sort of medium and it's still pretty wavy - very convenient. A friend of mine cut all his off without warning and I literally didn't recognize him, it made such a difference. He looked CUTE and like ten years younger.

good luck with the interview. my dad has a gov't job (actually he will be retiring in a couple of years). benefits are great, and most people who go to work for the gov't stay there mainly for that reason.

now .... get a hair cut hippy! [:D]

Good luck with the job Ron; DH was laid off from a job he had worked at for 23 years about 5 years ago; it's not easy starting over when you're in your late 50's.[&o]  It wasn't his fault either; he worked for a university and they laid off all the people in his department, about 17 altogether. Even though the job he has now pays less he's happier because it's a much friendlier working environment and the company rarely lays anyone off. My son once worked for J.C. Penny and they allowed him to keep his long hair if he wore it pulled back. About a month later he got his nose pierced and wore a nose ring; they said he had to stop wearing it at work or else; he chose or else. Not long afterwards he gave up the nose ring anyway. Young people have that luxury; no mortgage, car payments, etc.;  I hope you can keep your long hair though.

Aww good luck Ron.  I firmly believe everything happens the way it does for us only to make life what it will be in the future.  You certainly seem like the kind of person who can make the best of everything and make intelligent decisions.  Sorry cant say the same for your former employer.[8D]

I personally love long hair, so I hate to hear you have to cut it (not that I can see you lol)... just know it would be hard.  But, its just hair and will grow back at a later time when you can have it. [:)]

Or you can move to LA and start doing runway shows, us Idoggers will be your agents.[8D]

The nice thing about hair is that it grows back.  So, if you have to have a cold neck to get a job till you retire, you can be secure in the knowledge that once you do get done with your cushy gov job, you can grow it back...go for it!
Some of us have hair and no pension or health care to look forward to. [;)]

Exactly. DW prefers long hair on me but she knows I have to do whatever is necessary to earn money. Normally, I wear it in a pony tail, which is like having short hair but with a mane out the back.

I haven't had the interview yet. I was merely the first one to get an app in. They will collect, review, schedule interviews. It could be a week or so.

Make sure everyone has cell phones. Agents always have those stuck to their ears.

I was able to call the former co-worker and tell him that I submitted an app. That way, if he happens to run into the inspector again, he'll be able to alert the guy. "By the way, guess what?"

ron, I'm very happy for you, always nice to hear good news around the holidays, or any day for that matter. [:D]

Good luck with the job, Ron! My dad is a streets inspector for a local city. He loves it. His friends keep asking him when he's going to retire, but he says he doesn't have to. He only works half the year anyway with all of the holidays, vacation, sick time, etc.

I feel for you on the hair thing, but you can at least console yourself with the fact that you CAN grow hair! My poor DH would love to be in your position [;)]

My mother's father still had a full head of hair in his 40's and so far, so do I.
