my dog just died. i need to find out why

i just found out my pitbull just died. im guessing it must have been dead for 10+ hours since we found him in the morning and he didnt eat his dinner or did i see him at night. i feel sick right now. I really need to find out how and why he died. he has a big dog mattress in the garage and that is where he sleeps and that is where we found him. he was sleeping on it with his head a little off the mattress. he had blood coming out of his nose. not a lot but there was a tiny amount of it where it dripped from his nose meaning he didnt get hurt outside and ran in with a bloody nose because there were no trails. it was just the very small amount of blood from where his nose was when he slept. i need to know how he died. it must have been in his sleep right? there were no wounds or anything. is this a common problem in putbulls? please help

I don't really know too much about  Pitties or the problem you are talking about. All I can say is that I'm really, really sorry, although I know that doesn't make you feel any better. Sending good vibes your way.

    I'm sorry for your loss.

I don't know if you let him roam around outside, but from your post it sounds like you do...he could have gotten into some kind of poison. The only way to know for sure his cause of death is to have a necropsy done by a veterinarian.

If your dog sleeps in the garage, he could have gotten into something toxic and been poisoned to death.

EDIT: Everyone got there before me lol...

I'm very sorry for your loss...it must have been very distressing to find him like that.

You might take him to your Vet and ask for a necropsy (autopsy).  Where are you located?  I know it was cold here last night, although I don't know if that could be a cause.  Could he have gotten into something in the garage?   How old was he?

Oh, how sad! I'm so sorry you lost your dog. I think a necropsy is probably the only way to tell what happened.

its too late for that, we've already sent him to the vet to be creamated. i dont think its poison. he's an outside dog and had always been. he's about 7 years old. we let him have the garage and the side of our backyard which isn't too big. what could cause the blood to come out of his nose or is that just common to dead dogs? what could have cause him to die???

but we dont keep any cars in the garage or anything and we leave the door wide open to the outside so he could go in and out anytime he wanted. not to meantion he's been in the garage for over a year

I'm so sorry to hear about your puppers.  When did you take him to the vet for cremation?  I'm pretty sure his body won't go for cremation until monday so you might have time to ask for a necropsy.  There's really no way we could even guess what might have killed your dog.  There are too many possibilities.

actually they said they pick up on saturdays for creamation. how much is a necropsy? if it's affordable, then i will do it

Do you have a fenced in yard?  If so, I would check ther entire area around your fence.  It is not uncommon for people to poison dogs, especially pit bulls.

I am very, very sorry for your loss.

Not a clue, sorry.  Try calling the vet to find out how much it is.

I am so so sorry for your loss. I hope you can get a necropsy done, thats really the only way to know what happened for sure.

Yeah, I agree, you rpuppy may have been deliberately poisoned.

I don't know where you live, but maybe a snake came into the garage and bit your dog, or he was bitten in the yard and came into his bed for comfort and died.
I'm very sorry for your loss.

I'm very sorry for your loss. [:(] I agree with the others, it's very possible that someone deliberately poisoned him. It's sad but true and especially Pit Bulls are one of the most hated breeds these days. [:(]
