Do you mean breed or individual?

I'd imagine a top special of any breed would cost you upwards of $15K+ to buy outright....if they'd even consider it!

Rare breeds typically cost the most...I'e looked into several where a pet pup was over $2K.

Most breeds seem to be around the same price nowadays, but Bulldogs are among the highest priced it seems because they are so difficult to breed. A friend of mine couldn't find one for less than $2500 for a long time. My Toller will cost me around $1500 initially, which seems to be pretty common (atleast in my area anyway).

The most expensive dogs are those who are poorly bred and end up with numberous health and behavioural problems.

If you're talking purchase price, I know of a GSD in the area that cost his owner $30k to purchase. He's top, Czech lines, and came police trained. He's very valuable, as a breeder and worker. I'd imagine it'd be the top of the breed, pre trained, and seasoned breeder type dogs.

    That is so true!

In the first year of Gizzy's life I paid well over $2000 in vet bills due to her poor genetic problems (that was with my vet tech discount) and over $200 in training and privet lessons, not including the 70miles I had to drive both ways to get to the place. All because someone was not responsible about breeding.

I do not mind one bit paying $1200 for my new pup. At least that pup will come with a health guarantee from any genetic problems and comes from a ch. Bloodline.

I would think the more of a background the dog has the more it is worth. And IMO if anyone is going to pay that much they better know exactly what they are getting. They should find out before they pay. I hate to see people buy the breed just because it's rare and they think thats what they are paying for.

I think, as a whole breed, it was researched a while back that Norwegian Lundehunds were the rarest breed. I've seen a breeder offer pups for quite a bit of money.

I think as far as an individual dog goes, rather than a breed of dog, it would most likely be a protection trained dog from european lines. They are increasingly popular, but good ones are pretty hard to find with most people's pricetags.

It can cost around $100,000 to import a Supreme ISDS Champion Border collie - actually no one is exactly sure what these dogs cost exactly because the owners keep it pretty close to their vests, but the sellers usually let out the ballpark figure. This has been done about half a dozen times in recent history.

Second in cost is to import a top female in whelp to one of these champions. The pups from one of these deals usually runs around $1500.

The cost of these maneuvers has dropped, however, with the advent of the pet passport program. A friend imported a daughter of a World Champion, in whelp to a Supreme Champion and it only cost her about $15,000.

I agree, however, that the most expensive dog is the poorly bred one. I don't even want to think about what I've spent on poor Ben over his lifetime, between the accidents from his CEA, and his expensive cryptorchid neuter surgery (unnecessary because his parents had been bred several times before him - he never should have been born if the breeder had done basic health tests and kept up with his older full siblings), his allergies, his thyroid issues, and even the fact that he's missing some big chunks of working ability. I bet I spend a couple thousand every year at least over and above normal upkeep, and he's almost eleven.

It depends on what you are willing to pay.
I would not spend over 500.00 for a dog(a dog with parents who were health tested and titled)There is no reason any animal should cost as much as some do.

He's a GSD, and I haven't met him, so I don't have a photo. His owner is the local Schutzhund trainer, and also does pet obedience classes. My next dog will hopefully be a well bred Doberman or Standard Poodle, and I'll be in Schutzhund classes, then. That's going to be a while, though[;)]

The best dog I ever had in my life cost $1, lived for 17+ years, and never disappointed me - not even once.  [:D

Show quality English Bulldogs in US are going for $3000. I've heard in other countries up to $5000 .  We paid $2000 for our pet quality bulldog puppy and her vet surgeries have already hit $1000.

I've heard of trained protection dogs starting at the $35K level and going upwards from there.  I think the ceiling I have seen for these dogs is $65-$70K.
