Just a rant about improper use of flexi-leads

*sigh* I have people pick up their dogs at the doggie day care I work at using a flexi...and it always happens to be the group of 3 or 4 super-excited siblings. Try holding 3 flexi's and opening 4 gates and 2 doorknobs. *sigh*

Not a fan of flexi's. They just seem too dangerous too me. I don't really think they are necessary.. I feel like my dog should be within 5-6 feet from me which is probably the standard lengh of most leashes. And don't try walking with a flexi leash with multiple dogs.. I've tried it and I got caught up in one almost tripped a few times.

If you think about it, they're pretty much useless!  You use a 6' leash for walking, 4' leash for going out in public, and a long leash for going in fields.  The long leash can be 10', 15', 20', or 30'.  Sometimes they're longer, but 30' is usually the longest I can ever find.  Besides, the long leads are regualr thicknesses - not wire thin, and you can grab them at any spot any time if the dog takes off.  You can also let them drag on the ground without the handle hitting the dog.  I recently bought a 30' long leash for playing with Riley outside, and it works perfectly.

Retractable leashes are also more expensive, and also more fragile.  I can't help it, but I have to admit, despite everything I just said, I still use a flexi from time to time.  Of course, if they are going to be used, they should be used correctly.
