What are some of the funniest things you have heard?

    • Gold Top Dog
I've seen someone trying to rehome their "Roadwilder" and also someone else looking to adopt an "Old English Bulldogge" (misplaced extraneous faux-archaic 'e').

With my dogs, I have had people all the time tell me that because my dogs are hounds they're stupid and lazy. Like in that squeaky baby talk voice, "Oooh you hounds are so stupid, yes you are! Yes you are!"

Also once while walking in the shopping district near my house, I was tying my dogs up so I could enjoy a cup of tea without hanging on to their leashes and from behind me I heard someone hiss "Pit bulls!" But there were so many people walking around that I never got a good look at who said it. Seriously, what is with this large dog=pit bull? Pit bulls aren't even really all that big, or at least they didn't used to be until people started breeding those mutant hippo dogs.

Also, everyone thinks that Marlowe is a doberman puppy.

I have been informed that my "dobermans" are too skinny.  I also have been told that my dogs are "viszla mixes" or "are they greyhound mixes?"

But my favorite is the misinterpretation from when I'm asked "what are they?"

"Feral hounds? You mean they're wild dogs?"  Actually they are wild, but not feral.

"Farrow hounds...they work in the fields?"

When I get asked their names I usually say "That one there is called 'Shut up' and the other one, she's 'Be quiet.' "

On thing I don't think people know is BCs come in smooth coats as well. I don't know Gizzy's exact breed but to be safe I call her a smooth coated BC. I usally leave out "smooth coated" and suddenly I get the "your wrong...her fur is too short to be BC." Then there are thoes who do not hear the "border" part of the breed name and just hear "collie" then tell me "she doen't look like Lassie"

I often get the "is she a pit bull" all the time but to me she doen't even seem to have a trace of pittie in her. It's like people don't even know what a pittie looks like and just call every smooth coated dog one. It's funny that people with pits will spell it like "PET BULL" like they have a bull as a pet.

ah yes, i have also gotten "pit bull with his hair bristled" for Wyatt...and wolf for Kaiser...more than once!

"We have a purebred cockapoo". No, you don't. [:D]

I have two purebred Heinz 57 doggies [:D]

LOL!!!  I like those names a lot!! [:D]

I've had someone tell me that any dog with a half & half black & white face has pittie in it!! [:D]

Seriously, what is with this large dog=pit bull?

Emma, who weighs in at a whopping 18 pounds has been mistaken for a Pit Bull, at least five times.

She just attacked my yarn. I think it's true. Only Pit Bulls shake to kill!

Okay, now that is just bizarre! [8|]

I had someone tell me that Bou (my first Cardi) was 'obviously' an Australian Shepherd X pitbull cross and I was wrong about his age, he must be a baby (he was just over a year at the time) due to his half-white face and blue merle coloring.....

For ome reason, people are convinced Malcolm is a girl. He's really NOT a girly looking puppy, I don't think. And really, I promise, he IS a collie. Really. *sigh*

And yet, these people are out there driving cars and voting. Kind of scary, isn't it? Others that you would think would know better still think by local standards. The first time I went to the Sherman Animal Shelter, I saw a beautiful white female mix. All they had listed was mix. Now, I'm not a conformation judge but I can recognize the clues of my favorite breed. I tried to inform one of the ACOs that one part of her mix was Siberian Husky. He said, yeah but the fur's not right. I thought, criminy! Lately, though, I wonder if they, too, intentionally mislabel a dog to give it a better chance at adoption. I don't know of a local prejudice against Sibes, and it might be all in the head of whoever fills out the spec sheet for each kennel.

I think there are people out there who think there are only 5 breeds of dogs and if your dog is not one of them then they get confused.

Hound Dog- Any dog with flopy ears
    poodle- Common small dog
    Pit Bull-thanks to the news
    German Shepherd-aka Police dog
    Dalmation-thanks to the movie

Anything that they have never seen before on TV or in the news is not a real breed to them.

The term that really just gets me is "Golden Lab"...I hear it all the time and it never ceases to confuse me.  Umm...Golden/Lab mix?  Yellow Lab?  I used to inquire further whenever I heard it but I'm so sick of it now that I just leave it (well, that and the fact that I get labeled as the crazy dog who needs her doggy terms PERFECT).

And everyone's pretty convinced that Nikki (Golden/Saluki x) is a way way way underfed Golden.  I've gotten weird looks/comments before about that...  just because she's part sighthound and people don't realize it, they think that tummy tuck is due to starvation

    Yes, their counting system is 1, 2, 3, a lot ...

    This is fun![;)]

I just thought of one more that gets to me "Miniture Collie"[:@]

Err... there is no such dog it's called a "shetland sheep dog" or "Sheltie"

One lady I was talking to told me she had a 15lb minture collie when I explained that it's not a collie and how they originated seperatly and are different breed she looked surprised. She said that the shelter told her it was a minuture collie[8|].

Ron - did the girl at the Sherman shelter get adopted? One of my firends watned me to go look at her as a prospective foster.
