Positive Thoughts for Marlowe Please *Updated Sat. Afternoon*

I have been through the exact same thing except it was phenobarbitals.

Dont beat yourself up, we all make mistakes and I know Marlowe will pull through, I am 100 % sure!

I had to "learn the hard way" about crating as well. We do make mistakes, but that's how we learn.

And I am positive he will pull through. Sending good thoughts your way..

Checking in 'cause I'm thinking of Marlowe frequently. I hope he is still doing well and you have eased up on yourself, Cressida!  I KNOW it's hard, but few of us go through life without missteps...and that's all this was.

    Another Marlowe update.

Just got a call from the clinic vet this morning and Marlowe seems to be doing very well, better than they expected as a matter of fact. I had him home for some snuggle time on either end of his brief sojourn at our regular vet and his behavior was 100% normal Marlowe. He was of course pinging off the walls because he's been cooped up in kennels for the past 24+hours, he wanted to play with Conrad (which I put a stop to once it got too rough and tumble), and roll around on the bed like he likes to do to itch his back and head, and then we snuggled on the bed for a bit and fell asleep spooning even (he's awesome at spooning). So, he's not showing any signs of pain or ill health at all, and when I talked to the vet about that, she said that is definately a good sign.

Soooo, we wait. He'll get another blood panel run this evening and I'm hoping that if that shows continued improvement, they'll let him come home late tonight or tomorrow morning. I'll be sure to post when he does come home. I'm fully prepared for him to have lasting effects from this incident, but I'll just be happy as a clam if those are minimal. Our cats eat prescription food because of Rudy's near-death experience with cystitis, so if Marlowe just has to be on Rx food that's really just fine. I just want him to come home. I miss him so much, though Conrad is definately soaking up the extra attention!

I want to thank everyone for their good thoughts and PMs. We're going to get through this and your support has been a really big part of that. Thanks!

Wonderful to hear Marlowe's doing better....
    He'll be home soon enough...
All toes and fingers and paws are crossed for your sweetheart....
    Thinking of you ....

ORIGINAL: I keep thinking that surely I shouldn't have any tears left in me to cry, but they just keep coming.

I think the "tear supply" section of our anatomy is infinite, especially when we're wracked with worry or grief.  You'd think the moisture would eventually be eliminated after hours and days of solid crying, but it's a mystery to me how they can continue to fall.  [:(]

My heart is sad for you -- it's awful to face such a medical scare, and worse when we beat ourselves up about what happened.  As everyone else said, it was a complete accident -- something that happens often to pet owners or parents of small kids.  Try to focus your energy and spirit on thinking positive thoughts for Marlowe rather than berating yourself (easy for me to say -- but I'd have trouble doing it myself, that's for sure).

It sounds like he's making good progress and I'm sure you could do things with diet and supplements and other herbal things to help kidney and liver function rebound from such an overload.  Hugs to you and Marlowe!
