Im A Horrible Person

I just don't understand all this.  I've got a chow, she gets properly dosed with Frontline Plus, groomed and she's not allowed to be too close to wild animals.  I've never but one issue with one tick, which I noticed right away and took care of.  How do you miss these to this point?

A lot of people here mention they rarely give their dogs a bath.  Well, they still need to be looking for these things.  They need the prevention before there is a problem, that's why it's called preventative.

Get your dog on frontline, and it will solve the problem. My friend's dog (they used to live right near me) was covered in ticks at one point before they got frontline on him. Her dad would take him walking in the park every other day or so, and my sister or myself would go in and take him out for them, because he was a puppy on days when he was going to be gone a while. When we got to him,  there were some days that we must have pulled 5-10 ticks off of him. It got to the point where we refused to take him out until they got him on a preventative. As soon as they did, the problem was solved, and we never saw another tick on him.

We have deer ticks here that are very small. I live in southeast Tennessee and we have a lot of ticks in this area, but I havent ever seen a tick problem like this.

Just sounds like a nightmare. Are these "dog ticks" more prone to certain areas ?

I didn't realize there were two different species of dog ticks. We don't have many brown dog ticks up here but a ton of American dog ticks which are the outdoor species - they look really similar and most info I've gone through does not specify this species difference when they mention "the dog tick." I don't think there's any need to get nasty about this? It's not personal, it's just parasites. At any rate the OP doesn't state where she's located and I highly doubt she's still reading.

Yeah, but that's never stopped us from carrying on.

No kidding! And your dog is super fussy.

"Disagree totally with keeping cupboards open if you bomb, unless you want to wash everything and throw out food.

I think things are getting confused, not confussed, between fleas and tics."

I think it's ticks not tics - "He/she who lives in a glass house should not throw stones."
