Not Sure I Did the Right Thing

Of course you did the right thing. I have 6 Chihuahuas I walk on harnesses and leashes. When you are walking 6 dogs it is difficult to reach down and pick them all up nicely when they are at risk. I use harnesses instead of collars for the exact purpose of yanking them all up to safety when kids or other dogs approach. This is the only way I can keep them all safe. I had a 70 pound bird dog run thru my yard and grab up one of my 4 pound girls and run off with her down the road. I was hysterical. I did get her back but I had to run with my other dogs about 3/4 of a mile to get close enough to grab my dog's leash and pull her away from him. I never risk a chance encounter. After I know the situation is under control I will carefully set down my dogs to meet a new friend. But I always pick them all up first and together they weigh about 24 pounds.

    Hi, new poster here!
I remember when my baby was about 6 months old and probably 45-50 lbs (yellow lab), my husband and I took him for a walk on a usual route. From no where, this little dog--on a line that reached the sidewalk--jumped off his porch and started attacking my puppy. Spike backed up and tried to get behind my husband who was trying to pull him away, but I think the lines got tangled. Meantime, I'm trying to pull this little dog's line away from Spike. I wish I had scooped Spike up or just kicked the other dog to get him away. I was traumatized.  Luckily, Spike was not.
