anyone know what I can do about this?

Well, let me ask you this - does he scratch a lot too, or is it just the shaking?

There are lots and lots of threads in the nutrition board about dog food, so I won't get on that soap box, but it may be that a food change may help him. What are your dad's thoughts on dog food? If he will only buy from the grocery store, purina one would be my preference. However, if your dad is willing to try food from one of the pet stores, you might want to try something that has a different ingredient profile from what you're feeding.

Feel free to PM me any time, and I'll see if I can help you work it out some.

You also could consider cracking a raw egg over his food a few days a week. ;)

He stratches sometimes, but not very often.

My dad thinks Purina One is like the best food out there. I think he got the idea from his sister her feeds her purebred lab purina one, so I think he has the idea that if a ourebred eats it, it must be good. I don't know if he'll agree to get it from a pet store, but I could try. What kind would be good to get?
Oh and I already do the raw egg thing. He usualy gets it once a week.

Take a look at this thread for some links and info:

You could feasibly do the raw egg 2 or 3 times a week, btw.  On the other hand, it may have nothing to do with his food or his coat (the shaking).  Maybe he just *does* it. ???

How about putting the shaking on command? Get him to do it on command, and just never give the command, or don't give it too often. I put lifting paws on command for Max to make him stop doing it all the time when I was trying to get him to do other things, and it worked pretty well. It might help, and it shouldn't hurt (he might start doing it more for a little bit to see if you notice, but when he figures out he only gets rewarded for it when you tell him to do it, that should hopefully stop.)
