What Would You Say About This to the Management?

    • Gold Top Dog
Back to the original post, I really dont think that pup in the pet shop was a Pit Bull. In fact I would bet on it. The fact that the sign said "Bull Terrier" (though you convienently say they left out the Pit pat) is proof enough for me. Bull Terriers are indeed a breed, and quite cute with their little egg heads, and make wonderful pets.

I highly doubt a pet shop would sell an APBT for the simple fact that the media has done a great job of trashing the reputation of these wonderful dogs and no pet shop is going to risk losing there ignorant Pit Hating clients by having a Pit Bull in the shop. Also Pit Bulls sell for close to nothing, so its not a smart investment on their part, while a BULL terrier would sell quickly.

I'll say one more thing before I shut up and stop feeding the troll.
BSL is not the answer. Ban Pit Bulls and the irresponsible owners will just go out and get another breed. Maybe a Fila, a Cane Corso, a Mastiff, whatever. Imagine our world in 30 years, where all 'tough' breeds have been eliminated. What do you think will be next? Our precious Labradors, Great Danes, Golden Retrievers, Dalmatians, etc.

If we allow for BSL keep reproducing itself we will eventually live in a world with no dogs, because irresponsible owners will always find a breed to spoil.

    Now i'll shut up [:)]

    *sigh*

Can anyone tell me what THE most dangorous thing to a young human female is?  A young human male.  In fact, men are responsible for THE most murders, beatings, sex crimes, robberies, assalts, etc.  1 in 4 women will be sexual assalted by a man.

Therefore, I propose GSL (Gender Specific Legislation).  All men will be subject to microchipping, heavy restrictions, and if they are not good breeding material or are shown to be violent, castration and/or death.

Why not stop the attacks BEFORE they start?

This will reduce the number of attacks and violent deaths much MUCH faster than any BSL will.

Since we were already comparing wild and domestic animals, why not compare domestic animals and humans?

I agree 100% with you! Lets propose a GSL, I bet that wont go over well with the media, and we are in more danger of being attacked by a crazy male human than we are of being attacked by a pup.

Are you telling me that a Cocker Spaniel is going to attack and never let go once it starts as Pit Bulls have a known reputation of doing?

Heck, my corgi used to "bite and not let go". >9.9<

Pit bulls are no more dangerous than any other breed of dog. Sure, they can bite, but so can the rest of them. Out of all the dogs Eevee has been attacked by, not ONE has been a pit (just several labs,a couple mutts, a badly-trained GSD, a dalmatian, and a chihuahua!). And I live around Denver, near where the breed ban is (which doesn't work by the way. More people have pit bulls here now than EVER, and we have met plenty.

In fact, they do happen to be one of my favorite breeds and I DO understand their history of being bred to be DOG-aggressive. I ALSO understand that through several generations, that aggression can be bred out.

    Also,
comparing a fila brasilero to a pit is as ridiculous as comparing a pit to a chihuahua.

True.  It's also very frustrating how EM's get compared to Presa Canarios, Cane Corso, Neos, Filas, etc...All those types of Mastiffs can be wonderful family dogs if trained and raised properly.  But, they are not the same personality as an EM.  The whole "umbrella" of Mastiffs gets a bad name because 2 idiot Presa owners didn't see the blatant signals their dogs were giving them, and then acted surprised when they mauled a young women.  Not everyone should own 2 Presas, and then to keep them locked up in a city apartment is equally as ridiculous and irresponsible.  They both got jail time and they deserve it.

BSL's scare me too because we have a breed that is on the "hit list" for all the wrong reasons.

Well Peter...from Ill....I will leave you with this and continue NOT to give you a reason to stay here

My French Bulldogs will bite you before ANY of my Am Staffs/APBT ever would! I've owned the breed for over 12 years, my children have grown up with them and have never been bitten...Dogs of OTHER BREEDS have attacked my dogs while at health clinics, walks and dog shows and my dogs have not retailiated...although they're "supposed" to be dog aggressive...you're opinion doesn't hold any weight with me and I will continue to support the breed as I have done for so many years prior..as I'm sure the majority of the members here will also do.

so, I'll leave you with a smile and a picture of the love in my life...

Edited to add...This is a relative to Lori's dog....he is 1000's of miles away and still holds a great temperament relative to his breeders standards

Jaime that big boy looks like hes saying "Im good and Im going to win" That smile is priceless, and let me tell you that bully smile is unique!
    • Gold Top Dog
I have no statistics or facts to back up anything. I don't own a bully breed and, therefore, I consider myself to be impartial in this discussion. I just have to say that I have had great experiences with pit bulls and other breeds who are described as "bullies" or "vicious". We spend a lot of time at the dog park and I see people cringe when a pit bull comes in. But I have never seen a pit bull start any kind of trouble. They are friendly, happy dogs who love to play.

I've had multiple pit bulls in dog training classes and they are wonderful. A couple of weeks ago a pit bull happened to bite Odin during class. She did not hold on and not let go and I completely blame her owner for not handling her better. It could have just as easily happened with a cocker spaniel or lab being handled by this irresponsible lady.

I think that, just like others have said, the media blows up any story that involves a pit bull. Any dog can attack and any dog can kill. I think irresponsible dog owners need to be banned, not specific breeds.

Peter-I know you arent going to listen to reason, but I will try anyway.

I have had very limited experience with pit bulls/am staffs. I had a friend who had one a couple years ago (I cant tell you what a wonderful personality that dog had! His dog was as gentle as a lamb.), but mainly my experience has been with rescued dogs.

I volunteer at a local pit bull rescue, the dogs there have all been through heck. One of them was caught after Katrina and had to be trapped because she was so scared, she was then sent to an animal housing facility and abused by the caretakers. She was a little timid and unsure of people (especially men) but I trusted her 100%, and know, even if provoked she would have run between my legs (as someone said their pit did) and hid instead of biting. I honestly and serioulsy thought about adopting her for myself. She now has a wonderful home in Texas!

Another one also came from Katrina, he was found weeks after the hurricane with a collar embedded in his neck. He was also a very lovely dog who came into the rescue being dog aggressive. He learned and when he left for his forever home he was getting along with every dog at the rescue.

I also have a neighbor who owns 2 pit bulls. The dogs are chained up 24/7 (very depressing), and never get any attention. (I am still trying to decide what I can do to help) They have gotten loose twice now, all the other neighbors were terrified they were going to be eaten by these dogs. We caught them and all they wanted to do was play! No aggressive tendancies at all, despite living with such a poor excuse for an owner.

I could list all of the dogs at the rescue and tell you about their wonderful personalities. Despite being treated like poo by people they still love people and the only thing you have to worry about with them is getting licked to death. They are wonderful dogs and I believe their smile says it all. And in a few years down the road, my next dog WILL be a ;Pit bull or an Am. Staff.

I urge you (as I urge all pro BSL people) to contact your local pit bull rescue group or Am Staff breed club and to ask if you can meet one. I guarentee you once you meet a pit you will change your mind about them. They are by far the sweetest breed I have had the privlage of meeting.

I am sure there are some mean ones out there, but they arent mean by nature, they have to be taught to be mean. I have also met mean Labradors, mean Goldens, mean GSDs, mean Dobermans, mean Poodles, mean Rat terriers, mean Cocker Spaniels, the list can go on and on.

I have also heard that the breeds I have (Dalmatians and GSD) are vicious and aggressive. I have actually had people sneer at me when I told them I had Dalmatians and ask how I could live with such a vicious breed. I am also curious as to know which breed you have.

About the lab attacking thing too, not too long ago I read a story about a lab who KILLED a child! Any dog can attack.

Well, how nice, you have another piece of your collection of endearing Pit Bull photographs up now, just like people I knew who would have done the exact same thing until their pet did something horrible... And somehow, what you seem to keep ignoring is that virtually every death report you will find involves a nice Pittie owner who insisted his dog wouldn't injure anybody, with no history of violence at all, who just killed a completely innocent person one day. If you take out, say, even fifty percent of these as Dogos, Filas, Presas, et cetera then you still have a high number showing that it is still a dangerous breed. This is why they are unpredictable and that even the tamest Pit Bulls can easily break out and kill. Not every single Pit Bull is dangerous but their fighting backround and power make it easy for them to spontaneously to something like this. Pit Bulls have earned their bad reputation and believe me, if it were Presas or Dogos doing this every two weeks like Pit Bulls do then the media would cover them as they are no better in that regard (and some even worse).

All those attacks nationwide? With some of the attacks being close to death? And you really expect me to believe that a Lab attack is equal or worse than a Pit Bull attack??
    • Gold Top Dog
Does anyone have the statistics on how many pit bulls are killed by humans every year? I'll bet those numbers are outrageous! Last month two pit bulls were killed in their own yard here in Washington. In the middle of the night someone came and tied them both to the fence and they died before their owner could cut them down. I can guarantee that if that person is ever found their punishment would not be anywhere nearly as severe as the punishment inflicted on a pit bull who attacks a person.
    • Gold Top Dog
Of course many are killed, and dog fighting is a massive injustice but this still has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Glenda said something along these lines further up on the post but i'll say it again: The only way for a troll to go away is to stop feeding it (Glenda put it much nicer)

This guy is obviously a troll out to get a rise out of us because no real pittie hating person would go on a dog forum and try to change a dog lovers mind on such a hot topic.

We cant talk until were blue but this guy will just keep repeating what he has been saying from the first post. He will not change our mind and we will not change his so just let him wander off and go troll somewhere else

The reason people are less likely to die from a Pit Bull is because everybody doesn't have one around like they would a bathtub or aspirin, or coconuts in some regions. Some of those even sound suicidally self-inflicted.

So some of the  ;people conked on the head by a falling coconut may have committed suicide?  That I'd like to see. [sm=biggrin.gif]
    • Gold Top Dog
I suppose if you ran back and forth under a coconut tree long enough.....[sm=lol.gif]
