Why can't people follow the rules

what bugs me is the dirty looks, snide remarks, and overall audacity, of people (especially other dog owners) who freak-out because my dogs are off their leash. their simply enjoying themselves as dogs should.

Well, that's EXACTLY what you'd get from me.  That's what *I* feel that people that endanger all dog owners rights deserve.

You can expect no sympathy from me when your unleashed dog is pepper sprayed.  God forbid that ever happen though [:(].

it upsets me to no end that i will not be receiving sympathy from you if such an occurence should come about.

    thanks for the forewarning.

I could probably control Xerxes without a leash.  But I'm not going to take that chance.  You're willing to take a chance on your dogs life and well being and I congratulate you.

thanks for the congratulations! i appreciate it!

we all get to decide where to draw the line between safe, and happy.

do you have any idea how many car accidents there are every day? are you one of those AWFUL dog owners who risk their poor mutts lives by driving them in your vehicle?

do you know all the diseases out there you're exposing your mutts to every time you let them outside?

if concern for our mutts safety was the only important factor in raising our mutts we would NEVER LET THEM OUT OF THE HOUSE (or out of their crates for that matter). we all decide for them where to draw the line. me and my mutts are happy with our decision.

Hmm, did you think of that comeback all on your own, or did a grown-up have to help you?  [sm=lol.gif]

Love the title of this thread and I'll ask the same question regarding this forum...

Why can't people follow the rules..rude remarks??

This is no place for this and if it continues we'll be speaking privately

Sorry Jamie, off-leashness is just a very sore subject with me...no excuse though.
    • Gold Top Dog
It is a touchy subject for me too..laws are in place to protect both sides, the off leash dog as well as the leashed dog.

It burns my hide when I am out with my dogs leashed out of respect for others and am approached by a dog who is unsupervised.

But how much control of the situation will you have if a dog is loose and attacks your dog while off leash? Will your dog stand down because you've given a command? Could your dog possibly run into traffic with another dog fighting if attacked?
I'm not refering to your cresty, that dog could easily be picked up and taken out of the situation

Yes, I did read your post.  Did you read mine.

I know for a FACT I can call 4 of the six dogs off a running deer.  The younger two haven't seen one yet so all I'm SURE of is a rabbit and turkeys.  I consider that a pretty darned good recall, so yes, I CAN control them off leash.  But, the laws are in place for EVERYONE, not just those who can't control their dogs off lead.  And yeah, it annoys the snot out of me too to have to call my dogs back to a heel when they're having fun on an 8 foot lead, because SOME bozo doesn't think that the law applies to them.  That THEIR dog is too good to have to follow the law and that THEIR dogs poop doesn't stink.

good questions. i actually think i'd have it just as bad/easy in this situation as someone who had their dogs on leashes.

my biggest dog has been in many 'altercations' at off-leash dog parks (yet to happen anywhere else). he actually will stand down on command, but this can be a bad thing since the other dog often does not and will continue to attack him once he's lets his guard down, so i now use caution when/if telling him to stop during a fight.

MANY times i've had to grab the OTHER dog because the owner is simply uselessly screaming and has no control over their dog. luckily i've been scratched, but not bitten (yet). there is one off-leash park that i now rarely go to because too many people bring aggressive dogs they cannot control.

one thing i have noticed seeing dogs that are leashed attacked by non-leashed dogs is that a dog on a leash (and being held) cannot defend itself very well.

"Could your dog possibly run into traffic with another dog fighting if attacked?" anything is possible. but we rarely walk alongside streets. 99% of our walking/playing is done on trails, at beaches, or at parks.

ok, i see you get annoyed easily. but this has nothing to do with what i was referring to in the post in which i asked if you had read my post. i was referring to the piece i snipped out from your post, which actually has nothing to do with this, so unfortunately i have no idea where exactly you think you're going with this. but hey that's fine, i'm just a bozo anyway... ;)

Sorry, but if you are looking for a fight, you picked the wrong person.

Nope, I don't get annoyed easily.

And, you said you call your dogs to you when someone approaches.  I could do the same, but choose not to disregard the laws.  I simply reiterated how well trained and what good recall MY dogs have.....but still I leash them in public places.

And, for the record, I didn't call YOU a bozo.  I don't believe I've encountered you on any trails in NW MI, but, ya never know.  If I DID, then I guess the shoe fits.....
    • Gold Top Dog
not sure what makes you think i'm looking for a fight...

i am simply failing to see how your second to last post has anything to do with the post it was responding to.
