Marley broke my toe

    Marley broke my toe

Last evening the dogs went out for a potty break. The neighborhood stray cat walked by the fence about that time. I made the very stupid choice to go outside barefoot, and grabbed Marley collar to bring the dogs back in. (Once Marley heads for the door, Shaq always follows.) Just as I grabbed Marley's collar, she lunged away from me, and used my  barefoot to push off from. (Like a sprinter, using blocks at the start of a race.) When Marley pushed away, she snapped my pinkie toe, back and out. It's either broke or dislocated.

I hobbled back in the house, and DH iced and wrapped my foot. My little toe swelled up in minutes, and is all purple and blue today. What a way to start my summer vacation! Here I was all set to power walk and hike my way through summer! I really hope this heals fast!

Shaq has stepped on my toes and fractured them before, but it was not that bad. They just kinda cracked when that happened. This is MUCH worse. It feels like when your finger gets jammed while playing basketball, but worse because I have to walk on it.

If you all can handle looking at my purple toe, I may post a picture later. Crying

If it is a separated and/or turned break, you may need to have it set. It may take 3 weeks before you can walk with mild pain. I broke my pinkie to on an ottoman a few years ago. Had to have it set. Since I had used up my vacation time and we didn't have sick pay, I had to go to work, anyway. And that is an ordeal on a construction site. And the toe didn't heal right and I'm not sure if it was from the reduction setting or walking on it too soon. It still gives me problems. If you wait too long before having it set, you may have real problems. One of my neice's broke her toe in dance class. Had it set and taped. Then, due to pressure from her classmates, tooke the tape off too soon and broke it again. This time, she set her self and taped it and left it alone. It eventually healed.

Marley looks so contrite!  What a beauty.

I agree with Ron - go have it looked at to be sure you do not have further complications down the road.  Sorry your summer is starting out to be such a drag!

Yeeouch. Sorry, but I had to giggle. [;)] Saint Bernard, a sprinter? [sm=lol.gif]

Hope your lil piggy feels better.

    oh my.

Oh no!  Silly Marley, breaking your mommy's toe!

That really sucks, Karin...I hope you are feeling better but I would second the recommendation of getting it checked out just in case.  Sending toe-healing vibes to you. :)

Oh, and Ben sends magic puppy-kiss-it-better licks.

Thanks Ben! Magic puppy kisses are the best!

I'll be fine [:)] DH played years of football, and took hours of sports medicine classes. He is great at taping up injuries [:)] If it's still really swollen in a few days, I'll make an appt at the clinic. (I was not about to drive 2 hours to the emergency room last night! )

Besides, I'm really milking this little injury. DH made lunch, and picked up the house. Then he settled me in for a nice long nap, with Seinfeld DVD's.

1.)Yesterday and 2.)today. My pinkie is still swollen, but smaller then before. I just hop around the house on my good foot [:(]

    Ouchies!! I would've screamed!

Yay for hubby taking care of you! You should hurt your toe all the time. [;)] (just kidding.)
Seinfeld DVDs are awesome! I like the "notes about nothing" they play durring the episode. I'm a trivia nut.
    Hope your toe feels better!!

At least Marley's big enough to lean on, LOL.

I hope your toe heals quickly!

I'm so sorry to hear about your toe - I can relate to the pain!  Tonka weighed 130 lbs at his largest, and he stepped on our toes regularly.  How we managed to NOT have them broken is beyond me.  Sometimes he would get up so close to us while we were preparing food at the counter, he'd just STAND on our feet like a statue.  No matter how I'd holler, he'd keep his eye on the food and not budge.  I'd have a pawprint on my foot for an hour or so!

But, as you probably agree, you simply cannot be mad at them for being the big heavy lovebugs they are.  I miss having my boy step on my toes (and worse in the middle of the night when he'd jump on the bed and land on us!).

Keep that foot up and well iced!

Having had a dog-related toe injury (6 stitches thanks for Grey's canine tooth and my stupidity), I can honestly say I know that had to hurt like hell. Toe injuries are horrible because it takes just enough time for you to say, "Oh, that's gonna hurt" just before the pain actually hits you.

Marlania, I was just thinking about your Grey foot injury. That one had to hurt. How long did it take before you foot felt "normal" again?

Actually Jennie, Marley has been coming in handy for just that purpose. When I hop down the hall, Marley thinks she needs to escort me. Which works out fine, because I can lean on her if I loose my balance. [:)] If I could just borrow Teenie and Emma to run errands for me, I would be all set! [:D]
    • Gold Top Dog
Well, it seemed like someone was always running over my foot the entire time I had stitches, but once they came out about two weeks later, things started to get back to normal, although I was really paranoid about anything touching my toe by that point.

If I could just borrow Teenie and Emma to run errands for me, I would be all set!

Emma would love to come over and get the phone for you, if you don't mind the tooth marks. She can also herd up the dogs, and gather them close to you, LOL.

Teenie will be your official lap warmer[;)]
