As a woman who was horribly attacked by a pit on her 5th birthday and still does have a fear of them, I have to say that the dogs on this forum make me realize what wonderful dogs pits and bully breed dogs and mixes can be.  Your dog is beautiful and my first thought when I saw that picture was what a sleepy cuddly baby.  I would let Sally into my bed and give her hugs and kisses!  So, while I don't want to start controversy, I wanted to let you know that even someone with apprehension about your breed saw nothing mean in that photo!

To me she just looks really tired- you can see that her eyelids are heavy. [:)]

That's a cute, pouty picture. Your mom must not be much of a dog person to not know a dog's expressions... >o.o<

I get that all the time too.  I love the picture of Sally.  But, I thought about what I would see if I didn't have a chow who gets the same thing.  I think the fact that her paw is moving her jowl up on the right makes them think she's snarling.  I wonder if they realize that's her paw doing that??  Plus, her eyes are not round, they are like Willow's move slanted and that also makes people say that.

Either way, just block it out, they don't know what they are talking about.  I usually say "do you really think I'd take a picture of her acting aggressive??"  "That's not something I'm proud of and encourage and show off with photos!"

That usually makes them think twice next time.

I think she looks bored, not mean. I love the pic!

I've never been truly attacked though I did have some frights. I first remember meeting a GSD, the friendliest dog. I was scared but the owner introduced me. Another time, when I was about 7 or 8, one of my grandparents neighbors had a poorly trained and non leashed Doberman. He took off running after me but he didn't catch me because I'm part Husky. I was wearing roman sandals. I lost one and kept on truckin'. Later, I learned not to run. That the Dobie was just playing with me and thought that chase was part of the fun, etc. The owners were still wrong for not controlling their dogs.

So many times, you watch a movie and they have guard dogs, Rotties or Dobies.

Aren't these the people who kept saying that Sally was mean because of her breed?  I think you could have a picture of her sleeping peacefully & I think they'd still say she looks mean.  I think it's a sweet picture & I'd be proud to frame it & show off her beauty.

I wouldn't say that she looks mean.  I think she looks kinda glum, like, "jeez, mom another picture??! Okay, okay, one more."  lol

    I think she is adorable.

Yeah, this is the "Eww, that IS a pitbull, isn't it" aunt.  I shouldn't even show her pics off I guess, but I'm so proud of her and how far we've come, and I just love to share--I just wish people (especially my own FAMILY) could be happy for me instead of making negative comments. [>:]

For example, I'd love to start a Sally scrapbook, and this aunt does a lot of scrapbooking and I'd love her imput, but now I don't want to even ask because I don't want to hear about how evil my dog looks.

I guess I shouldn't take it so personally.  I think it's because it is my family--I could take it better from some random stranger.

I have to say...that is one of the cutest pictures I've ever seen.  I would definintely have it framed.  Your dog is such a cutie!

-----> random stranger here.  Sally is BEAUTIFUL!  I know it kind of hurts that your family can't be happy for you & Sally.  Just know that I, a stranger who types @ you on a dog board, am VERY happy for you & understand all your "little' victories & celebrate them with you.

[:(]That makes me sad for you.  That they can't share in how great your dog is and how far you have come in your training.  Part of the reward of doing all that hard work is knowing that other people see a well-trained, lovable pit and it may change their minds about the breed.  Really, that might be part of what is so upsetting... that if you can't even change your family's mind about them... [:(] THAT SUX!

Tell your aunt to name you any better behaved, better looking, more loved dog in your family.  When she can't, tell her to go fly a kite!  (ok, I'm being mean, but it's on someone else's behalf and Sally doesn't deserve that treatment.)
The pic looks like she's bored or tired.  In NO WAY to even a non-dog person would that look "scary".  They're the same folks who think if you see the whites of a dog's eyes, then they're scary mean dogs.  Ptooey on them, I say!![:'(]

I think she looks like she's saying "OMG Mom - not the camera again!" If she were getting ready to bite someone, wouldn't she have her lip curled back and her teeth showing?
