I met my first wife when I was a bouncer working nights at a club. She would come in and pretty soon, we got together. She passed away July 28, 1992.
I met DW at a charity dinner in December 1993. We had friends in common but never knew each other. My friends, who's daughter is our goddaughter had invited me to this dinner. The friends in common put on shows and dinners where you would pay $20 or $30 for a ticket. The actual cost per person would be 5 or 6 dollars and the rest goes to local charities, such as the Food Pantry, Bryan's House, etc. Anyway, I had to pick up my friend's wife. He was working a little late and would drive directly to the restaraunt. The funny thing is, I was telling his wife, on the way over, that I was finally ready to be with women again in more than just a casual friendly manner. My first wife's ghost had finally gone on to her next step and it was time for me to go on to mine. So, at the restaraunt, future DW and I are stealing glances at each other. She was dressed in a burgundy skirt and jacket and looked simply elegant. That was the word that came to my mind. "Some enchanted evening, you may find a stranger. And when you find a stranger across a crowded room ..." Me, I was nothing to look at. Long hair, reaching past my shoulders, army fatigue jacket, jeans, I looked like that last person you'd care to meet. So, one of our mutual friends drags her out her chair by the wrist and brings her over to say hello to me. I didn't even have a chance to stand up, so she didn't know how tall I was (6' 6"). She, as it turns out, is 5' 5 1/2". Later, my friend's wifea asked me if I met anyone I liked. I said yes. I wouldn't mind seeing Brenda again. So, eventually, my number was given to her and at first, I only had her work phone number. She's had previous issues with men and some personal security concerns. But I was the exception. As luck would have it, the long-haired biker type was her type. And all of her old biker friends were electricians, too. Go figure.
Our friends swear up and down they had nothing to do with this and did not hatch a machiavellian plot and we tell them "baloney" to their loving, dear faces. We got married April 29, 2000 in a renaissance wedding at Scarborough Faire in Waxahachie, Tx.
