    I am glad I didn't pre-order it...

Me, too - I thought about pre-ordering, but opted not to.  I walked into Wal-Mart last night and there was a huge stack for $18.  No shipping charges, no crazy crowds, nothing.  It was the first time the Wal-Mart greeter ever sold me on anything when he said, "Oh, just go ahead and grab it."[:D]

Hey LostCoyote :) Just FYI, you may want to edit your post.. it may be a bit of a spoiler. I'm finished, but I would not have wanted to read that.

Good book... edge of your seat the whole way through!

    howz that?
i x'd out de last two digits

    [:D]

i sure hope they do a betrter job on the last 2 movies.

i thought #2 and #3 were the best ones so far.

what seems to be lacking in the last one is emotional content.

    **Content Removed Plot details**

maybe they should have made the movie 1/2 hour longer - it seemed much "drier" in terms of emotional impact than some of the earlier ones.

maybe the movie company doesn't care. they know people will come to watch it - so let's minimize the screenplay and reduce the film length to save dollars and maximize profits.

i likes the chamber of secrets and prizoner of azkaban the best - so far

hope the last movie is done well - it deserves it.

Please don't post plot details of any of the books without a warning at the being of the post.  There are people who haven't even started reading the books yet.

OK, spoiler for BOOK 5 (Order of the Phoenix) included, so if you dont want to know crucial details from that book, scroll scroll scroll!  Keep your eyes closed tight!

lostcoyote, I thought they did a good job for the most part on Order of The Phoenix.... the cutting they did was pretty good I thought.  But they shouldn't have cut it so drastically after the big battle at the Ministry.  I don't know if you've read the book but in the book Harry goes back and starts screaming and trashing Dumbledores office.  He's hit REALLY hard by Sirius' death.  That was totally missed in the film.  They put too much effort into where V. possesses him and they soppify it a fair bit IMO.  They could have cut that in favour of the scene in D's office.... would have made the film a teensy bit longer, but it would have been worth it IMO.

Even if you don't give the page number it's on, the fact that it happens at all is a plot spoiler! That's not nice! I don't care what page it's on, but I would have been pretty cheesed off if I'd read that info before I finished.

    exactly.
like i said, i wish that they had allowed another 1/2 to the film to include more emotional drama. i thought films #2 and #3 were excellent... and with #4 and #5, it seems to be rather dry on the emotional side of the coin - to either make the movie shorter (thus, less expensive to produce) - well.... whatever. i hope they do book 7 justice on film.

    OK look, seriously, guys.

I KNOW that 97% of this board is OBSESSED with Harry Potter so I'll most likely NOT get a truly unbiased opinion. But how good are these books?
    Seriously.
I read all the LOTR books and was bored off my butt through the first half of the first book.
I read Hermann Hesse and Thomas Mann for comfort. The Potter books were suggested to me like...3 years ago because my friend said they were an excellent, comfortable, easier read that was also very entertaining.
The Little Prince is my favorite book of ALL time.
Do you think I'll end up liking them?
Or is the first book so boring that I probably won't make it through the first half?

I haven't gotten the Potter books yet because I have 83499 other books I wanted to get through first.

I have tried several times to read LOTR and couldn't get through them.  I am a person who has read "Don Quixote" in the original middle Spanish and if I could get through THAT, I should have been able to get through these.  Nope--I almost fell asleep during the movie!

HP, OTOH, is AWESOME. The characters have depth and are REAL.  They have their good  moments and their bad ones--just like real people.  JKR has doen the world a great service in bringing thse characters to life.
