he doesnt know hes a wizard and hes just as ignorant about the magical world as you are.

I think that's another thing that made me love them so much. I really didn't know what the books were about til I read them. I had NO idea it was about wizards or magic. I found out Harry's a wizard when Harry found out. And maybe that's why it doesn't seem like total fantasy to me, because I was just reading this book about this abused orphan boy, and wondering wtf was in the darn letter, when suddenly there's this huge hairy guy telling him he's a wizard. Fantastic. [:D]

I want to listen to them on CD or audio casset because I will actually listen to them. I don't always read books anymore, even if I really like them. I used to love to read, but with cd I can read and draw, play with my animals, clean my room, ect... but they are in the childrens section so I have yet to go over there and check them out, maybe when I run out of good ones in the adult section...

i've tried that before... but maybe what all my teachers said was true.. i must be ADD .. i cant listen to save my life lol which is probably why my favourite music is stuff from the 70's... lots of repeat choruses .. looong drum and guitar solos... and i rarely pay attention to the words anymore.. i zone out...
the one time i checked out a book on tape was James Harriet.. and i had to play it five different times because i kept spacing out, or started fiddling with some doodad, focussing on a drawing, day dreaming.... me and human voices... not a good mix.
i say a lot here, but its only because i am making up for not saying anything in real life lol

and good deal, Bevo, i hope you enjoy them :)
i might go recheck them out at the library.. i am having a hard time finding anything good to read lately..... i have a stack of books beside my bed, half started with no intention of finishing them [:'(]

I read the first two HPs.  They were great!!!!  I can't believe that I didn't chose to read them earlier.  I have to pick up the others tomorrow!

I have never seen nor read any of the Harry Potter books or movies.  I have no desire to do so.  I tried to watch one of the movies with my sis and I couldn't get into it.  Nothing made sense to me, but I didn't like the Star Wars movies or the Matrix movies either.

Bulllymom, I felt the same way on all accounts. (Star Wars, Matrix, & HP)

I was so impressed by these books though!  You may want to give them a try.

I know it's a little off topic but have you read that book Marley and Me??  If you enjoy reading, that's a great book!  I'll have to borrow one of the HP books from my BIL!
    • Gold Top Dog
I haven't read Marley & Me.....yet.  I have it in my next stack of books to read. There are 13 books there, so it could be a week or two before I read it.

Start out with the first Harry Potter book.  I wasn't sold on reading it until around chapter 3, & then I couldn't put it down.

    Yay! We've converted another!

Seriously, I don't know one person who has read the books and isn't totally in love with them. My sister made fun of me for AGES for being so obsessed with these books. FINALLY when she was pregnant and on bed-rest (2 years ago) she picked up the first one, and is, shockingly, just as obsessed as me. She read the 7th just as quickly, and has called me three times a day since to discuss some detail of it. [:D]

Well, I'm one who isn't totally in love with them.  I read the first two...definitely easy and quick reads...but beyond that...meh.  I think rowling knows how to tell a story well, but I felt the writing was really geared toward children.  I generally like sci-fi / fantasy writing, but just could not get invested.  Not to mention, they felt pretty formulaic...start with harry at home, then off to hogwarts...something mysterious takes place...a bit of misdirection as to who the bad guy is...harry and crew get in trouble and break school rules along the way...a little quidich (sp?) ... ultimately discover who the bad guy is...showdown, end...rinse and repeat.

Maybe the later books in the series picked it up a bit, but affter reading the first two, I didn't have the desire to find out.

Well that sucks. The third has always been my favorite, so maybe that one would change your mind? The second and first are my least favorites. But honestly, I love them all, and can't imagine not having picked up the third after reading the first and second. I was totally hooked from the first chapter of the first book. They definitely are way better written as time goes on though. I reread the first book last week, and cringed at the way some of the passages were written. Very kid-ish.
