Ok, gotta say that if you are upset by this than you obviously don#%92t understand Billy#%92s sense of humor… AND he would be the first one to admit that he is NOT the sharpest tool in the shed.  So all your are likely doing is letting someone who likes to joke and occasionally give insensitive comments a good laugh right now over how serious you took a comment.

Now, that all aside, I agree with you that when people ACTUALLY MEAN that they think those who are younger don#%92t know very much, THAT is hurtful and just wrong. But in this case, I am SURE this was meant as a “smarmy” joke.

I do agree with your post as far as the concept. I have a tendency to ignore people who express a sense of humor in that way, because its not worth my time to indulge "the jerk" in that regard.

I know intelligence comes in many forms and an be shown in different ways. Whether its through common sense, book learning, ability to articulate, ability to organize etc. Everyone has their strengths. I think it's insulting for older people to belittle younger people who may be stronger in areas that the older person may be weaker in, and it's insulting for younger people to belittle older people because they "just don't get it". The pendulum swings both ways. However, I am on your side in this one. Age is just a number. It truly doesn't mean a thing other then restrictions the government puts on you because of your age. That's it.

I am for my part sorry you and others have felt slighted or belittled. I just wanted to say that...I am 32 and I remember my 20's. I was freer...but no less responsible for my actions, or worried about things like money, family, the future...than I am now. Things in my early life had me grow up quickly....and I don't doubt it's the same for many.

You never stop learning about life...ever. You never stop learning from other people...ever. You never should stop trying to be a better person...ever.

I think we know different things at different stages in life but at each stage we are sure we know everything. So what you know at 20 to be right is likely not what you're going to know at 40 to be right. Life is always changing.

In fairness Shelly not everyone here needs, or indeed wants, to understand Billy's or anyone else's sense of humor. Not a requirement for membership....at least not yet...lol.

I try not to be personally bothered by such comments, even if people really do mean it or think they are better.   Maybe they are right, maybe they are stupid.  Only time will tell for sure.

What I do think is funny is how many 25-30 year olds I know that are still getting money from their parents for cars, insurance, housing, school, student loans, etc.  When I left at seveteen, I was cut off financially, end of story.  So these people looking down on me like I'm a kid is really more funny to me than it is offensive, considering I'm the one who worked three jobs plus and unpaid internship while being a full time student fully supporting myself without a car or cell phone paid for by mommy and daddy.  I just think "Yep, you're sooo much more mature, sure, sure..." [;)]

The most disgusting thing about this is that everyone who's older than me is just going to say to themselves, "Well, she doesn't realize she's an idiot now, but JUST WAIT..." The whole attitude pisses me off so much.

Not to worry.  You will get over it.  But probably not until you're old enough to realize how true it is.  [;)]

In my opinion, if a person knows as much when they were 20 as they do at age 30, 40 or 50, then they are not learning from their mistakes.

Agreed… my statement was perhaps not worded right as I was not saying that he is necessarily CORRECT in stating such things, it is only that if you don#%92t like, but you bring it up by starting a thread, you only encourage the kind of behavior that you are not liking.  Does that make sense?  In general, I find it is better to just ignore unwanted behvaiors as sometimes they go away if they don#%92t have encouragement.   [:)]

I wholeheartedly wish I listened to older people like Billy when I was young....I thought I knew everything...I was very wrong...I quit college ....partied way too much and got married and had babies early...Not that I would change anything because I love my children dearly but looking back I was in fact an "idiot" ;)

And some people get old and still don't know how to be anything other than an asshole.
