so far i have agreed with billy twice in this thread! the above, and get a good cast iron skillet. make sure you season it well, dont let it air dry, and use it often!

I LOVE using this pan and this particular calphalon one is nice enough looking to serve right from your dining room table.

Shelly - I have almost the same pan but without the nice glass lid. If I use the skillet  to make like spagetti sauce or something, it's really a pain to get it clean.  I wonder if I've done something wrong since it seems like the large pot doesn't do that and the skillet is duller looking than the other pans. Can the surface get damaged?

From the web site Shelly posted:

    Dishwasher Safe: No

That, IMO, is what usually damages pans.

Cathy, which one of the caphalon sets do you have? I have never had any problems with mine. The ONLY thing is when my stepdaughter used metal utensils on one of the skillets   [:@]

Seriously???  And no metal utensils?  That doesn't sound right.  I'll have to look when I get home to see what kind I have.  The saucepans and stockpot or whatever the large one is called, are fine though.  It's not got a protective coating on it, so why can't you use metal utensils?  Geesh...I'll feel really lame if I wasn't supposed to [&:]...

many you can.. just not MY particular caphalon ones that are the contemporary nonstick.   Check and see later what ones you have...

Okay, so it looks (based on Amazon.com) like I have the anodized kind. I think metal utensils are fine, but it does recommend handwashing them, which I do most of the time, but not always [&:].  Those contemporary, nonstick ones look nice. Does the nonstick work as well as teflon?

The nonstick works great. Never had a problem and I have had them 3 ½ years. I notice the one that the SD used metal on and scratched it, sticks a bit more is a bit harder to get gunky stuff off of it.   I use a specific type of scrubby that caphalon recommends and all but the toughest things come out with no problem. I never dishwash and the only thing I do use for REALLY greasy stuff is "dawn dissolver spray”.  It looks like it is safe for it and I haven't had any problems with the coating since I started using it.

If you are interested, buy 1 of these as an open stock and see how it compares to the others.

I might just do that.  Macy's is having a big sale tomorrow and I have a gift card, so I might use it on that.  I have 2 full sets of pots and pans, one teflon and one calphalon, plus misc. stainless steel, so I'd feel a wee bit guilty for starting with a new set...but a few new pieces can't hurt, right? RIGHT!!!  LOL![:)]

see if you can find the one I put the link up for .. I REALLY like the 2 serving handles instead of the long cooking handle.  It really does make for a unique pan and since you may not have one just like that.. then it gives you all the more reason to justify you buying one! [;)]
