Removing Ticker Links

(Mods, feel free to move this wherever you want it)

I made a fake ticker at TickerFactory and BabyGaga, so this should work the same for both...

When you make your ticker, they will give you the "code" that you're supposed to add to your sig.  Here's some code for my fake ticker (I've added spaces so that you can see the code and not the actual graphical output):

      http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/4;10731;116/st/20070729/e/no+more+ticker+links%21%21/dt/-1/k/2c88/event.png ' border='0' />

The part of the code refers to the image - the ticker itself.  That URL is basically pointing back to the ticker site, which is generating a new image each day, depending on the date parameters you specified.  The part of the code is the link.  So, to remove the clickable link and only keep the image, remove the tag and the ' target='_blank' title=' part of the code is the link.  So, to remove the clickable link and only keep the image, remove the tag and the '> part of the code is the link.  So, to remove the clickable link and only keep the image, remove the tag and the tag.  For my example, I would be left with:

    [img] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/4;10731;116/st/20070729/e/no+more+ticker+links%21%21/dt/-1/k/2c88/event.png  ' border='0' />

Which would look like (no linky!):

    Or

the tickers still update when you do that? interesting!
    • Gold Top Dog
They should.  I know the TF ones do b/c that's what I use and have no link.  It has been updating every day.  That nasty long url for the image looks like it contains all the parameters needed to generate the right image each day.  I haven't used a BG ticker, but I'd assume they work the same, or people could just use TF tickers instead (they have baby tickers).

I figured it out and it works for me. I assume if they didn't update my ticker would be reset at zero.

Oh crap - now I have to watch more embryos?  Where are the PUPPIES???????

bumping this, so newer folks with tickers, can see how they can unlink them in their signatures, to keep them within the no links in sigs rule here at the forum. Smile

For those with questions about signatures in general...see item 5 HERE:

CRAP! I forgot about the no link rule... *runs off and changes her siggies*

Edit: WOOHOO! I did it with out messing up and losing my siggies!!

Here's the thing though. When you remove that link, you're violating THEIR terms of service. The links back to their site (not image links, actual links) are a big factor in their sites popping up on search engines, which in turn powers their visits to advertisers.

Yep.  That's why I make my own sigs (that, and I'm hopelessly bored at work).

Yes, but if that's the case, tickers from that site (or those sites) aren't permitted here.  What matters, here, is not the TOS for any other site but the TOS for this forum.  Even if we wanted to, staff don't have time to make sure that posts here conform to the terms of countless other sites, nor is it the function of this forum to provide advertising (via search engine counts) to other sites.  We are responsible for what happens here, and here the rule is that sigs must be delinked.
