Like, how many dogs do these people have? WTH is with all the "poo" dogs? Oh, you mean MUTTS? For hundred of dollars! Wow. What a deal. [:(

Also, I can't even copy and paste all the ads on there...there are at least 10 pages of ads from the paper's website....several more stores like the one whose ad I list above...as well as many, many, many BYB ads...OK, now I've just depressed myself. [:(]

For example, my niece got a 2 yr old yellow lab (free... go figure) from the ads and left it in it's fence. somehow it got loose and literally ripped her house apart!

now, that's a slap in the face if you ask me... i never trust ads with older dogs espically (not that my house isn't already a zoo) lol!

It's not that the older dog is the problem.  It's the active dog that has not been trained or socialized or ever given any attention that causes the damage.

Mini Puggle, Mini St. Bernard

Do these come in "minis"?  Do they need to?  And, this place sure offers a lot of mixes.

For Sale Going out of Business.  Pair of Pugs  male and femals. Minpins 3 adult males, 4 adult females.

There was a similar ad here a couple weeks ago closing down a Great Dane kennel.  No reasonable offer refused.

i think buying an adult dog would be worse than a puppy. i mean, why are they getting rid of him/her?

for example, oen of my close friends were telling me about this woman who got a lab(2 years old) that suposedly was an angel and the person couldn't take care of him anymore due to illness. anyway, she brings the dog home. she goes to work and leaves the dog in a confined place with one of those baby fence things. she comes home and her whole house is just a diaster. trash everywhere and things ripped and broken. never trust ads with older dogs!
• Gold Top Dog
I think it's really unfair to stereotype all older dogs being given away as "bad." My personal experience is a perfect example. My dog is 8 years old and has been given up TWICE. She is 100% housebroken, she LOVES people, does not bark, jump, or bite. We don't know why she was given up the first time (we have a strong suspicion that her first owner may have died or become unable to keep her for a "legitimate" reason like moving to a nursing home,) because she was soo well socialized and trained. We do know that her last home kept her for less than a year before giving her back to the humane society, though they made sure to let her get fleas and tapeworm first.

Anyways, that rant's a little off the subject anyways....I know, I could not believe "Mini St. Bernards"?!?!? Like, is that real? Or necessary? Geez. The thing is, I have now found out that this store that sells like 800 billion puppies is actually really, really close to our house...I am so tempted to go over there and investigate what on earth is going on over there...

What's really bad is a breeder managed to get 8 week AKC
Cavalier puppies posted in the rescue section of Petfinder
the other day.  They said they were doing it as a favor for a friend,
serious inquiries only, not a cut rate adoption fee.  It's been removed.

"Pregnant mother cat and kitten free to good home, please save her from going to the pound." This one burns me.

Don't let this burn you. At one of the shelters where I used to volunteer, people would "sponsor" a pet or pets, and part of that included writing and paying for a classified ad to find them a good home. We'd have to give our own phone numbers, not the shelters, to make the pets sound more appealing (because a lot of people believe "shelter pets are worthless" but a pet from a person is somehow better).

And we'd do our best to try to come up with something really powerful that would make people consider taking THIS pet, even if they weren't looking to add a pet to their home. "Save me from ending up in the pound" was one of the more successful lines, capable of convincing a multi-cat family of adding "just one more" cat or kitten to save it from "certain death."

As someone who's worked in rescue, I know a lot of animal lovers will be pretty unscrupulous about making the circumstances sound as dire as possible in order to place pets in need of homes. Because the reality is, there's always a home with two dogs that will take "just one more" if you hit them in the heart...and you go to bed that night knowing one more dog is safe and loved because you came up with a really sad sounding ad.

So the ad that sounds terrible may actually be a rescue person hard at work placing or creating homes for shelter pets in need.

<>

This is sad. I think all houses should come with dogs, not the other way around. Though honestly, if someone threw in a house (a real one, not a dog house) when I got Jess, that would have been okay, too! : ) It would have been the deal of the century. Not that paying $70 and change for my priceless dog wasn't the deal of the century anyway, but throw in a house and it's even better!

Though I should point out that my dog DOES come with a house. Because Jess is my most prized possession, and it's just me, in my will, the person who gets Jessie get the house so Jessie will always have a home. So basically, if I die, my dog is a very rich dog... : )

Our local paper is always loaded with pet ads too.  This mornings copy has an ad for 6 wk old min-pins and one for the rare breed "Eski-Shih-Poo".  There are always ads for this-a-doodles and that-a-poos.  And then there are the ones selling ten different breeds and the ones with 8 month old pups, Ch bloodlines, no papers, insert ridiculous amount of money here.  It really disturbs me!
• Gold Top Dog
I try not to look at the classifieds in our paper. I post dogs from the shelter in there to try to get people to the shelter but that is it.

The ones at work get me. "German Shepard puppies AKC". Okay, so she made a mistake. However, if you can not spell the breed you should not be breeding it. So I politely replied to her that I got my GSD from the pound so I wasnt interested in her ad, and told her the correct spelling is Shepherd, since they are herding dogs. Makes sense. Well the post goes down (they only post things for a week) and comes back up a couple days later with the same "Shepard" spelling! This lady is so stupid, who is going to buy a dog from someone who cant spell the breed's name correctly? Well sadly I am sure she will sell the pups.

My solution is to over-power the BYB's on the board. I now have 5 ads up for shelter dogs *l*. And am surpised I got quite a few responses. I have yet to have a sucessful adoption through the work builliten board but at least I have educated a few people on shelter pets and the overpopulation problem.

I did however find a new foster for our local rescue!

We have some idiot here that keeps advertising Eskie pups as "self-cleaning"! WTH?    I thought that was an option for stoves not dogs!

I can't stop laughing about this...I know it's not actually funny, but can you imagine the guy that is selling these dogs? "Yeessssss, siirrrrrr - never have to bathe these puppies, 'cause them here are self-cleanin' pups, they're worth the extra $100 that I'm chargin'...fact, you shuld buy 2 of 'em so you culd breed 'em an' git you some real clean pups." Good god...

I'm glad we have a good animal control here. People with pups under 8 weeks in the paper get a phone call from us, stating that it's against city ordinance to do that. People with any pups in the paper get a call telling them that they need to purchase a $100 breeder permit for this year, at the very least, and possibly a higher priced permit based on how many litters they have in a given year. [;)]

Our paper mainly has the CKC registered labs, yorkies, maltese, and JRTs. We do have quite a few free to good home adolescent labs or shep mixes that "need room to run". *sigh*[:@]

4. "Pregnant mother cat and kitten free to good home, please save her from going to the pound." This one burns me. Maybe it's a good person who picked up the cats and is trying to find them homes before sending them to the shelter, but I really do doubt it considering the number of calls we get from people saying, "Well, if you don't take him/her/it, it's going to the pound, and it'll die there."

This one gets me, because someone posted this exact thing on our craigslist and I ended up taking her in even though I am allergic. I mean, how can you DUMP a pregnant cat. And our shelter is now high kill and they only last 3 days on there. She is due to deliver anyday, and she is such the sweetest cat!

I haven't seen the paper today but in the bathroom there was an ad with all the apartments to rent for Scnoodle puppies.  Can't remember for how much though.

We get A LOT of the toys, teacups, and designer dog ads in the papers.  We're a college town where most dogs must be 25 lbs or under and they market to stupid college people so well.  'No shed, no hassle' dogs abound...  These ads make me the saddest mainly because the poor dogs are clearly just being sold for the money from a stupid fad.  It's sad.

I've never heard of a teaspoon dog.  How much smaller can they get?
• Gold Top Dog
i guess it does happen sometimes that an actual house comes with a dog.

Yup. My uncle had a fabulous doberman named Sam that came with the place he bought in Missouri. We still tell him that dog was worth more than the farm!

Snow Leopard Huskies Pups Unique, beautiful, friendly, shots, health guaranteed 780-348- I have no Idea what these are but he has an add in all the time

Snow Leopards are the brainchild of some genius who crossed Huskies with Catahoula Leopard Dogs to get merled coats in huskies. The Catahoula rescue people have been in contact with them for breeding double-merles (which causes genetic problems). As if most huskies aren't energic and assertive enough, they throw in some Catahoula. Brilliant. Do they plan on hunting hogs north of the arctic circle?

Wow, that sounds like an incredibly stupid idea.  I guess this it what happens when you breed animals only for looks and disregard temperment and other important characteristics.
