We have a publication here that's a large collection of classifieds. Everything is advertised in there, and there's always a couple of pages for animals. I always read through that section, but I really don't know why. One day, it'll be the death of me. I swear, as I was reading it today, my blood pressure skyrocketed. Here's a few of the highlights:
1. A local petsore "looking for AKC/
CKC (Continental, not Canadian...we are in South Louisiana afterall) registered small dogs"...big surprise there. Judging by the bazillion large dogs in our rescue group, everyone here wants a small dog, and if the store can fool them into thinking their dog "has papers," then that's more profit for them. Ugh.
2. "Black Lab, free to good home, papers, male 9 months old, comes with house"...how sad...the dog comes with the house instead of the house coming with the dog [sm=smack.gif]
3. "Purebred Pit Bulls for sale, everything must go, some have papers, some don't, all have shots, $400 and down"...You'd swear they're trying to sell furniture or cars...
4. "Pregnant mother cat and kitten free to good home, please save her from going to the pound." This one burns me. Maybe it's a good person who picked up the cats and is trying to find them homes before sending them to the shelter, but I really do doubt it considering the number of calls we get from people saying, "Well, if you don't take him/her/it, it's going to the pound, and it'll die there."
5. "Take me home!! ACK black/rust,
7 weeks, male Min-Pin. I need a human family,
my brother and sister have been sold to good homes leaving me behind. I am very playful, partially paper trained, eating solid food. My owners are accepting the best offer for me. Hurry. First comes wtih acceptable offer takes me home to love and I will love you back." 'Nuff said there....
6. "CKC 3/4 Timber Wolf 1/4 German Shepard large males, $300." ...This is the first wolf hybrid I've ever seen advertised in this area, but I'm sure it won't be the last considering the ad. The only wolf mix I knew of was Brown's best buddy a few years ago before we moved. He lives near Brett's grandma and always came over to play. His owner is a huge animal advocate, and somehow wound up with him as a very young pup. He was raised with cats and so gorgeous, and thankfully, he was very socialized and had a good temperment.
Surprisingly, there wasn't one -oodle, -uggle, or the like. That's somewhat relieving, I guess.
