I fell in love with this book so much that when I first read it I would say, "If I ever have a daughter, I'm naming her Ayla!" [:)] I  have re-read all of the books at least 3 times each. I will be one of the first at the bookstore when the next one is released.

I love the name Ayla too! I didn't like the last book as much as the earlier ones.  I didn't find that all that much happened.  It was ok, but it felt more like a really, really long prologue than an actual book!  I'm looking forward to the next one, though.  Any idea when we can expect it?

I agree. The last book was very long and somewhat boring. I also was kind of getting tired of how Ayla can do no wrong. She's like the ultimate woman, thinking of everything, inventing everything, able to do anything. I like the implication, but it was getting old in that book for me. I still love the series though and will read the next one when it comes out. I have no idea when that will be. The last I read on her website was that she was still working on it and that was over a year ago that I checked.

    Running With Scissors

saw the movie and enjoyed it.. Now I really wanna read the book![:D]

I loved the book!  Haven't seen the movie yet.

I thought the movie blew big time. The book was way better, but that's just me.

the books ALWAYS are (which is why I rarely see the movie if I have already read the book. I like the movie enough though to get me interested in reading the book which I am sure is WAY better...

I read Running with Scissors and had mixed feelings about it. Some of it just seemed SO out there. I did enjoy it though and my mom really liked it. Neither of us have seen the movie though. I do remember that Annette Benning was nominated for something for her role in it though, wasn't she?

I believe so and she played the crazy mom quite well... [:)]

I highly recomment "We Need To Talk About Kevin" by Lionel Shriver. I read a LOT, but it's probably the best mainstream fiction I've read in a decade.

So excited so many others loved The Kite Runner, too; it is, without a doubt, one of the most compelling recently written novels I've read.  Again, I recommend that one without hesitation - I did weep throughout, but it's not maudlin.  Just moving.

Anne Rice (at least the first Vampire series and some of the Mayfair stuff) is my guilty pleasure.  I first read Interview when I was 13 or so and have a first edition of the paperback and a signed first edition of the hard cover.  I waited SOOOO long for the second book to come out - I was actually in college and was a little underwhelmed when I read the jacket and found Lestat would become a rock star in the 20th century. But it was better than it sounded!  Still, the first is, for my money, the pinnacle.  So fraught with conflict, ambiguity and emotion -very HUMAN!

Love Margaret Atwood - even loved the Opera based on The Handmaid's Tale.  Very operatic material...

I almost picked up "The Vampire Chronicles" by Anne Rice the other day. It begins with Interview with the Vampire and then had like 3 other books with it. I've never read any Anne Rice novels, but I did see the movie Interview with the Vampire. I've been wanting to try her stuff out. I might just go pick up one of her books this weekend now. [:D] I was confused though because there were SO many books by her and I didn't know if some of them were part of a series and I didn't want to read anything out of order.

I tried to read an Anne Rice book and couldn't finish it.  She's soooo wordy.  I was like, get on with it.  But her stories are great.  I enjoy her movies for the most part.
