Preggo question: Tips for getting things moving?

This is a thread for info but also a bit of fun too....

OK, so I have been swimming, I swam half a mile, I walked round town nearly all day, I've been running up and down the stairs at home, I've had a hot bath and a hot curry and I've been taking raspberry leaf.  I've heard oxtail soup is meant to help but I'm not too keen on it and we don't have any in the cupboard anyway.
.... What else can I try?

And before anyone sinks into the gutter with THAT suggestion.... yes that too.  But nothing seems to shift this guy!  Anyone got any other tips?  Even superstitions and old wives tales?  I'm only a day late but the suspense is killing me!

Think we did a good thread like this for...was it huskymom? no...maybe? darn my memory! i'll see if I can dig it up.

My suggestions were walking, and getting your membranes stripped, if I recall.

Go for a car ride on a bumpy road.  That is what we did many many years ago.

Do NOT drink castor oil.  All that does is clean out your bowels.

Round about the parts I used to live in, it was to mow the lawn on the riding mower. Or take a ride in the four-wheeler. Got access to either of those?

    I've also heard vaccuuming.

    Suck that bugger out!

And he'll be clean to boot!

Be patient.  That baby will come when he/she is good & ready.[;)]

That's true but it sure beats pooping on the table during delivery!  I did that[:D] Very embarassing!  I was in pain and didn't care at the time but my hubby will never let me forget it!

Ohhh I forgot, I was told to go horse back riding.  I couldn't get on the horse but it was worth a try!!!

I've actually heard that's quite a common occurrence.

I wouldn't recommend it if you don't want to sit on the toilet all night/day. But I think Castor Oil did it for me. It sucked sitting on that toilet all night about to burst, but he came the next morning. I'm not kidding... Took half the dose recommended at about 4pm. Nothing happened, so I got impatient and did it again at 8pm. It sure emptied me out all night, but I went into labor and didn't even know it. I got to the hospital at 9 centimeters. I almost had him in the car.

Your baby has to be ready for any of these "move it along" tips work. I'm not sure if it was the Castor Oil, or if he was just ready that morning. And no one will ever know either.

This just made me crack up this morning...especially after going to class last night and hearing DH say, "wow, they are really messy when they come out!"

A friend 's wife took a few dives off her diving board when she was a week overdue.  Gotta be careful not to do belly flops - clean dives.

Also I have heard it works to give yourself an enema, which you want to do anyway before the birth.  Enemas are NOT bad at all.  Get yourself an enema bag and make yourself about 20 oz. of caffeinated coffee.  Let the coffee cool, fill up the bag, and give yourself the enema.  Try to hold it in as long as you can and lay on your left side).  It will clean you out nicely.

I plan to give myself an enema as soon as I know I'm starting the labor process, unless my doctor says not to.

I agree here...But my first was a week early and my second was a planned c-section, so what the heck do I know.[8D]

I think I would rather drink the coffee than do this...and I, personally, would NOT do this....

Sounds like there have been some pretty desperate overdue preggos...Jumping off a diving board?[sm=crazy.gif] Now that takes some guts.......

Try some Chinese food....it probably won't work, but it will sure taste good!
